mpeg-1 kvcd's on dvd media?

The subject pretty much says it all. Am I able to burn multiple KVCDx3 files onto one of my 4.7gb DVD+R/W media? IF so, how would I go about doing that? Thanks!

I have no idea if this can work, but you can reencode your audio to 48000 AC3 using BeSweet and then use DVDPatcher to patch the header of your files to DVD Specs (352x240). Then, after authoring, Patch again the VOBs to the correct resolution. Or maybe you can skip the patching/re-patching using DVD-Lab that supports non-standard files.

along the same lines, what limits are there to bitrates for mpeg 1 (352x240) on DVD-Rs?

I read somewhere that you couldn't go past 1800 video and audio combined...is this correct?

You don't need to encode the audio to AC3. You'll need to have the samplerate at 48kHz but MP2 will do just fine.

The DVD "Bible" reference is here: http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html

Edit: I do all my KDVDs at 128Kbps or 192Kbps MP2 audio.

Is it possible to put 720x480 mpeg 1 on DVD-r for playback in a standalone player?

kwag 10-09-2003 10:10 PM

Hi m0rdant,

No, not really. DVD specs allow only MPEG-1 at 352x240(288).
Unless you "trick" your muxing, only if you encode at PAL 25fps or NTSC 29.97fps ( because you can't encode 23.976fps with 3:2 pulldown on MPEG-1 ), then you could "fool" the authoring program. Under those conditions, then you can encode 720x480 MPEG-1. Just remember that it will be muxed as DVD, but the stream will be MPEG-1 and not MPEG-2, so it will not be a standard DVD. But we don't care about standards, right  :rotf:

Thanks Quag, saved me some experimenting...do you know what the bitrate limit for mpeg 1 at 352x240 on DVD-R is?

The answer's in the FAQ Kwag gave the link to, I don't remember the correct value right now.

Yep, read through it...1850 video CBR 29.97, 48hz audio...The TMPGenc wizard brings it up as Low Quality DVD.

Thanks
