To start with, these templates are the best. No more VHS quality VCDs.
My thanks to kwag and everyone else for the hard work.
I do have a problem though.
I have a divx dvd rip of Snow White. It is 84 min long.
When I use the KVCDx2 1-cd templ it comes out to about 815 meg.
When I use the Beta Template (704x480) it is about 1090meg.
I want this to fit on one CD for my kids so I don't have to change the cd.
I have several questions.
1.Why is it coming out so big? No where near 120min.
2.Should I just reduce the CQ number to get it to fit and if so should I use the x2 or the Beta templ?

Again thanks for the help.

Your problem could be the source, if it is a 4:3 film then that could be the reason behind the large file size. 16:9 sources compress better. You could try dropping the audio bit rate to try and save yourself some space> I find 112 kbps is about the lowest you can go with out any real loss in quality. The other thing you could do is reduce the frame size. I know you want to keep the quality iof the DVD but if you want it on a single CD this may be the way you'll have to go.
Hope this is of some help.

Thanks tarsus.
My source is 4:3 film.
I will try dropping the audio bit rate.
The question I have now is do I use the old x2 templ or the new beta 704x480 templ?

Also another question I haven't seen asked.
The time on my DVD player shows up wrong with these templs.
For exmpl a 74 min movie would show up as 62. It shows this on my pc also. Just wondering if everyone has this.

Thanks.

Whenever you encode from a divx source your file will always be larger. This is becuase of the noise and artifacts that the divx encoding procedd creates. You can lower the CQ and you wont see much loss in visual quality and you can get samller file sizes.

Use the newer template, mainly for the fact that it has been tweaked. As for the time being wrong on your DVD, well it would be seeing as it is reading the VCD as a standard one and seeing as you're only supposed to get 74-80 mins on a single cd the time will be off somewhat. Like I said though you may want to drop the resolution as well as the audio to make sure you get it onto one cd. So if by just dropping the audio bitrate doesn't work alone just use one of the 352x288 for pal or 352x240 for ntsc or the 480x576 templates and you should get it all on the one cd. The picture might not look quite as crisp as the DVD rez templates but we can't have everything, best of luck m8.
