TMPGEnc: TMPGEnc Won't Recognise .AVS File

Last night I tried FitCd for the first time and generated a .avs file. But, TMPGEnc does not recognise .avs files as video source input. It reads in the .d2v file just fine. How do I get TMPGEnc to read in a .avs file?

No I didn't install AviSynth. Just FitCD. I guess I'm missing a step to the process?

One other thing is to be sure the AVI2 (File Read) is set to High in the Environmental option of TEMPGEnc, I just had problems with the script reading on AVS files, and had to re-set the Environmental options in TEMPGEnc, not sure what happened to the original settings, but check from time to time.

I guess I'm still missing something fundamental here. I downloaded, unzipped and installed Avisynth106. I put the .dll in my windows/system32 directory, I ran the install program. What I'm trying to do here is back up a couple Pokemon dvds for my son, which raises another question, but later. Here's my process:

rip with Smartripper
run DVD2AVI 1.76 ==> create .d2v and audio files
run FitCD ==> create .avs script

I thought that at this point, I could just have TMPGEnc read the .avs file, rather than the .d2v file when creating a new project. TMPGEnc won't do it. I get an error saying that it can't open the file, wrong format or some such error message. TMPGEnc will read the .d2v file just fine.

What am I missing?

On another note, with the Pokemeon dvd, the format I get from DVD2AVI is aspect ratio 4:3 and 29.97 fps NTSC. Not unexpected since these were originally from TV episodes. Question - Do I keep this as 29.97 fps in TMPGEnc and the kvcdx2 scripts, or should I change it to 24 fps?

I had this problem the other day, took a few hours of tinkering around to get things to work. Read this page for a few troubleshooting tips:-

and try installing the avs handler into your TMPGenc directory, close the program and reopen........

should work like a charm.......but also ensure that your script does not contain any extra or irrelevant info else it wont work either.....

If you are running win98 you should use the system dir. System32 may not be in your path.

When you said you installed the dll file, is it the "mpeg2dec_dll"?

I had the same problem as you have and I had to download this file. This is a separate download and installation from Avisynth. After that, the avs script now works in TmpGenc.

Timberwolf - I have installed both the mpeg2dec.dll and avisynth.dll. The mpeg2dec.dll is in it's own directory and the avisynth.dll is in the \windows\system directory. I haven't had time to try it out with a different movie yet. I returned the original dvd that I rented. I thought that maybe there was a problem with the orginal .d2v file that I used with FitCD, but recreating the .d2v file made no difference. When I get a chance, I'll try a different dvd.

I had a problems with the scripts one time and what I had to do was d/l the mpeg2dec.dll again, but the second part of this was to be sure that FITCD picked up the mpeg2dec.dll properly, I suspect the the old mpeg2dec.dll ha become bad for some reason, anyway, look to the bottom right of FitCD, there is a small block just to the left of the "mpeg2dec.dll", click on that and go to where you have the mpeg2dec.dll, highlight it again, open. Not sure if this will work for you but it did fix my problem.
