Hey Kwag. Let's say I have a really short movie (full resolution 720,480) that is about 45 to 60 minutes.

I want to use one of your KDVD templates, but I noticed that you go for quantity first (which is not a bad thing at all).

I want to encode this movie and try to fill up as much as the DVD-R as possible, but still want to use your KDVD templates (I like your GOP structure and Quantsize Matrix settings).

So what can I do to modify these templates in order to get GREAT quality (not that your KDVD templates don't deliver great quality or anything)?

Because your templates are optimized for putting more on a disc, and I only want to put this short 45min-60min, what settings can I change so that quality gets maxed out, most of the DVD-R is used, yet it STILL stays within the official DVD requirements/parameters?

I was thinking of just upping the bitrate settings (which would produce awesome results because lower bitrates and your settings produce really nice images), but was wondering if there was another thing I could do to increase quality (quantsize matrix? GOP?). And what is the max bitrate I can use until I leave the DVD restrictions?

Warning: You may never see the following sentence on this forum ever again.

Filesize is not that big of an issue.

So... About the GOP structure, I know that making it too long will violate the DVD restrictions (something like 18 max??) so is there anything else I can do to it, but still stay within restrictions?

Thanks in advance.

Crank up the bit rate to 6,000Kbps. You can go up to around 8,000 but 6,000 will just be awesome quality. And add about 10 to the default CQ value in the 720x480 KDVD template. Leave the GOP and Q. Matrix as they are. The result is still DVD compliant with the template as is. That will just about max out the quality. Still, you'll have room to spare in your DVD
Make a small 2 minute clip, and preview it in WinDVD, before you encode the complete thing!
