VirtualDub: Will only capture at 720x288 resolution?

ok for some reason vdub is not capturin at the resolution I want. I chose 720 x 576 but its capturin at 720x288, I used vdub vcr aswell to test this and got same probs, I haven't had this happen in the past but as of late its only capturin to 288. Anyone know what might be the problem?

Hi Andy,

I had that problem a long time ago, when I was using the BTWinCap drivers.
I recall that I downloaded the previous version of BTWinCap drivers (at that time), and that fixed the problem. So it was a problem with the version I was using.
Are you isnig BTWinCap :?:

I'm usin the drivers that came with my hauppauge wintv pci tc card but I did have the btwincap drivers installed to use a prog but unistalled them when the prog didn't work.

Hi andybno1,

I think that because you system went screwy, you should uninstall all the
drivers assocated w/ the wintv pci (or is it wintv-go) anyways..

* First, uninstall ALL the wintv drivers.. capture and vfw/wdm
* next, look for an app on your CD for a file called "Hcwclear.exe"
...and run this.
* Go through all (o) and delete all references of vfw etc. Keep running the
...app "Hcwclear.exe" each time you clear/delete a reference - 5 all together.
...Note, there will be some error messages w/ the third and fourth options
...Ignore them, and continue deleteing those references too.
* When you get to the last [x] box, and completed all deleted references,
...reboot, and be sure you have your wintv driver CD disk.

During reboot, windows will asks for driver files when it senses new hardware.
- - > Ignore the error messages and press CANCEL and let windows contine
running.

Next, install your VFW driver from wintv.
Reinstall your wintv's VFW driver ( if windows 98 ) I'm not sure any WDM
drivers come w/ the wintv. It's an old card. I never had any WDM w/ mine.

Reboot again.

During the booting up of windows, when your new hardware will now see the
VFW drivers, it will continue intalling support for them, and you should now
be in windows - yeah!!

This is my personal opionion. When I successfully reinstaled my drivers and
things, I did one more reboot. In my past experiences, I recall having some
non explained crashes. And, when they did occur, I would loose certain
kinds of functions (of which I can't quite explain)
So, I've learned to do a reboot after every successful reinstall of anything.
It's become a standard practice. Never continue working, untill windows has
properly shut down and writen some important settings and things !!

That's about it I think, ..good luck :)

right I'll give that a go I did do a full removal of btwincap and also a hcwclear with last option to remove all never gone through each option before. but hey I'll give ur way a shot and hopefully it will remove the drivers and the problem I'm gettin. Thanx for the tips aswell

andybno1 11-06-2003 09:22 AM

well I finally got round to doin what u said vhelp but I'm still havin the same capture probs of no higher than 288 :x maybe its just best I do a computer reconfig and if that don't work I'll just give it a big whack.

*edit*
I done a test capture at 640 480 (randow res) and it ended up 640 x 240 so deffinately summit wrong somewhere.

andybno1 11-13-2003 06:16 PM

well I'm still lost I done a full reconfig of computer and yet I'm still gettin the same prob its not capturin at the right res, I'm thinkin maybe its a windows update thats causin it cause I had all updates saved on disc and I installed them all I then finally got round to installin vdub and there it was again the same prob.

andybno1 12-01-2003 05:56 PM

ok well I'm still confused to what the prob is, is there somethin that stores information about driver settings?? I only ask cause I switched to me older smaller drive so I could reformat the bigger of the two drives see if maybe that would clear the problem, lo and behold NO did nothin for me. Now back to what I asked.

I only asked "is there somethin that stores information about driver settings??" cause when I switched back to bigger hdd installed win xp it stored the same drive letters for the dvd and cd writer as they had been changed due to havin two drives plugged in, so anyway seein that the drive letters where still the same as before the format of the bigger hdd it got me thinkin maybe somethin somewhere has the conditions saved from when things went ca ca. Anyone understand that?? lol
