How do I use CQMatic to predict size for KDVD 720x480 for burning onto 2 discs? I am using Stacker to find average bitrate, frame and duration. Where do I indicate the final 1600MB size for BBMPEG to split?

It is simple!

Create a d2v-file with DVD2AVI. Encode Your audio-stream with BeSweet or HeadAC3he. Create a AVS-Script. Simple copy the MA-Script and edit the resolution-line and the source-line.
Open this AVS-Script with TMPGEnc. Create a TMPGEnc-Text-Script.
Load the d2v-file in Movie-Stacker and enter Your settings you chosen or take the calculator on my site in the CQMatic-Guide.
Open CQMatic and load the tpr-file. Enter at Settings the path to TMPGEnc. Enter the length of the movie and the average bitrate. Hit 'Start' and 'OK'.
Multiplex Your final file in bbMPG.

I just discovered the number of disks on the second tab of MovieStacker. I assume I should enter the 2 disks here and use the new average bit rate from the first screen in CQMatic?

Which program is your guide using for average bitrate?

Hi nicksteel,

If your target is a DVD(KDVD), simply select the number of CDs in Moviestacker that will closely match your wanted file size

Thanks,

Since I'm making 2 CDVD's, I'll select 2 disks and let BBMPEG (muxed as DVD) split before authoring in TMPGEnc Author. This should make things a lot easier!

I have burned the DVD files in the past as both CD Image files and as SVCD files. The quality of playback seems about the same. Going through TMPGEnc Author does let me easily add chapters. I never did figure out how to chapter with VCDEasy and don't know how it would handle KDVD full muxed as DVD.

On my site there are many guides about KVCD.

The CQMatic Guide is here:

Need to know the bitrate calculator (not MovieStacker) referenced in CQMatic Guide for determining Average Bitrate.

OK here how to use it:

First click on 'Advanced mode'.

Chose @ 'Type' that what You want to have to.

DVD is 720x480 (MPEG2)

SVCD is 480x480 (MPEG2)

DivX is N/A

XVCD is 704x480 (MPEG1)

SVCD is 704x480 (MPEG2)

CVCD is 352x480 (MPEG2)

cDVD is 720x480 (MPEG1)

Enter Your 'Video length'

Enter the numbers of CDs and Size.

Enter Audio Bitrate or Custom audio bitrate + how many tracks.

Calculated Bitrate is Average Bitrate...

Check this in MovieStacker too...

... if You want...

Something else?

BTW: I added this to the Guide right now...

Followed the guide, but have questions.

I am using a d2v from a dvd. Converted the wav to 128 mp2 with Headac3he. The film is 16:9. I use KDVD full, muxing in BBMPEG as DVD for final use as CDVD.

I opened the d2v in Stacker.

On first screen, I used:
Destination DVD with everything set to 720x480
Video Stream is set to 23.976fps (I convert from 29.97 to 23.976 in avs)

On second screen, I used:
128. kbps
Authoring vcdimager SVCD
2 80 min CD

I assume that MovieStacker handles the audio factor in the CQMatic total size calculation.

I follow the guide and run CQMatic with average bitrate and film length in minutes.

Last night, I processed a film with a known CQ of 82.5. Processed with CQMatic. First pass at 70 second at 90. (90 was chosen and encoding commenced. Final output was in excess of 2 CD's.

After this, each attempt to run CQMatic results in first pass of 70, second pass of 1, encode at 1. All this happens instantly, so the program is obviously not running properly.

Where am I screwing up?

each and every time your to do a new encode, you need to open up TMPGe and uncheck the Source box under the advanced tab in the settings. If this is not done, it will create wacky things with the frames.

What I do is when I load my .d2v or .avs file into TMPGe, I click on the load button on the bottom right and choose my favorite template (for it is KDVD) and then click OK. Then I click on settings button and make sure that the source range checkbox is unchecked. This will clear the soure range that was previously used to calculate your CQ. Click ok and now save your text-based .tpr file and load that into CQMatic and let it do it's work.

This has to be done every time you start a new encode or it will goober up the prediction. Hope this helps.

Thanks, will try tonight.

Also, do I leave the min/max bitrate in TMPGEnc as set by the DVD full template?

Hi nicksteel,

You can use the defaults if you want, but you can also change any other parameter that you may want to test. You can even encode as CQ_VBR, because CQMatic will let you use either CQ or CQ_VBR
If you save a project as "2-Pass", "MVBR", or "CBR", CQMatic is smart enough, and will tell you it must be CQ or CQ_VBR

Source: DVD 16:9 29.97 Film
DVD2AVI output without Force Film (Telecide(),Decimate() in avs)
MP2 128 from Headac3he
Standard AVS sample prediction CQ is approx. 82.5

Desired output KDVD 720x480 muxed in BBMPEG as DVD for CDVD.

Created TMPGEnc project file (text) from AVS file.

I opened the D2V file in MovieStacker and adjusted the length (99 min) 2 800 CD's out.

Entered average bitrate (2609) and length (99) into CQMatic. First pass was at 70, second at 90, third at 87.2, final defaulted to 90. Encode at 90 exceeds 2 CD's.

As I have to set BBMPEG output size at 700 rather than 800 for 80 min CD's muxed as DVD, this may be a problem (this produces 714MB files which fill a CD in Nero either as SVCD's or DVD images). In MovieStacker 2nd screen, a value of 800-audio size is given, which is compatible with VCD's and normal SVCD's.

First, in MovieStacker, are there other settings that are critical?

Second, what adjustment, if any, should I make to average bitrate to create 700MB rather than 800MB output from BBMPEG for DVD mux? Any output above 700 will not fit a 800 min CD.

Hi nicksteel,

Get CQMatic 1.0 BETA 7, and see what CQ you get with the same values you used above.

Thanks, Kwag. Will try tonight.

Also,

Do I need to change the KDVD Max/Min from 5000/300 to MAX=2,500 and MIN=(0.75*AverageBitrate)? As I said in the previous post, I assume that muxing as DVD in BBMPEG rather than SVCD creates larger files. Is this so?

You bet
But only with the MA script, you use the lower MAX bitrate
Use MAX=2,000 for half D-1, and 4,000 for Full D-1. That should be plenty bitrate with the adaptive script

Sorry, but I'm confused. (as usual)

I use "For DVD and clean material (AviSynth 2.0x): " optimal script. Exactly what should I enter into TMPGEnc?

If you're using the regular script for 2.0x, then only adjust your MIN. Like MIN=(0.75*AverageBitrate).
You can only lower the MAX if you use the Motion Adaptive script for AviSynth 2.5x.

Ok.. I do have a question regarding this.. I used DVDRHELP's Bitrate Calculator and used MovieStacker's. I noticed that MS's is AVERAGE and DVDRHELP's is CALCULATED. Bare with me here... MS stated that with a 68min 34sec movie (target file size is 1400MB) on 2 80min discs is averaged at 3005. You then multiply that by .75 (3005 x .75= 2253.75). This is now going to be you MIN bitrate, correct?

In DVDRHELP's calculator, I am in advanced mode. I key in my time 1 hour 8min 34sec (or 68min 34sec). I then choose DVD under the disc type (since I am making a KDVD). I then choose custom for my disc size and enter in 1400MB for size. Then I choose my audio bitrate of 192. I did notice that you cannot change the MAX bitrate to 5000 (I have AviSynth 2.08 so no MA script for me). It calculates the bitrate at 2548.

Which do I use?? Should I be using the XVCD setting instead or DVD??

MovieStacker is in badly need of updating (which is EZ for me to say since I am not the one coding it). It does need to have a setting for KDVD as well, instead of just KVCDs.
