KVCD Playback on PC?

I have downloaded a few short movies(not illegal). That says they are KVCD. They are in bin format (VCD) but I am unable to play them on my PC, they are just garbled. The actual file is a dat file. Do I need a special codec to play them. TIA

Use DAEMON tools to open it as a virtual CD or burn the bin on CD-R(W). You cannot directly play the bin file.

I was not actualy playing the bin file but the dat file inside bin that I had extracted.

Do a little search on the forum. This subject has been discussed a lot recently.

convert the dat to "true mpeg" with VCDEasy.

If all you want to do is play them on your pc, then download VLC media player: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
Its very light-weight in both size and cpu resources (much less than windows media player), and it plays even files I couldn't open in anything else.
It's also freeware. I'm still using version 5.0, but I see there has been several updates available.

Nice player

Media Player Classic can play them out of the
box too. http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli

You can also add an svcd filter for other players but
I haven't tried this however - MPC has it built in.

If it's an MPEG-1 KVCD, NONE :!:
WMP already plays any MPEG-1 file, so any KVCD will play just fine.
