do i need to increase the resolution to 544x480 or 528x480?

itred converting i spy xvid to skvcd(352x480,ntsc) using dialhot's v4 script wth the second blockbuster line included...overal i'm pretty happy with what i got but there is some scenes especially the first 3 mins of the movie(snow scenes) and scenes where there are walls(quite blothcy) that do need improving..i would like to know if mergechroma or luma might help with this scenes or do i need to increase the resolution to 544x480 or 528x480...on another note , which plays a higher role CQ or Resolution..Higher resolution always gives u low CQs' but lower resolution gives u high CQs'(and saves a lot of time)..so which is a higher factor???..thanx

All is based on : what are the problems you find to theses particular scenes ?

i mean like there are scenes with walls at the background that is not that clear as what i see on the foreground...on the xvid movie itself with bsplayer or WMP , i can see the walls clearly.....overall most scenes(in the skvcd) with lightblueish-greyish scenes are not clear and sharp ... how do i improve the quality of it..

If the problems you have is "mosquito noise" (little pixles that blink around the edges), you can first try without the second blockbuster line, then use a lower res (to raise up the CQ).

If the problem is "dancing blocks" (big squares movind in unirfomly colored area as the walls), you have to increase a little the variance of the first blockbuster line (to 0.3) and perhaps also the second one (to 0.5)

thanx man it works when 0.3 and 0.5 variance change...it looks way better on mpeg1 than on mpeg2...u da man...

btw ...when do i need to use merge chroma and merge luma..

enximex, i just use mergeluma/chroma for gaining CQ. all i can see that they do is make the picture have higher contrast. you could read the avisynth manual to find.

You should never use it on Divx sources : they are yet a little blured (more than DVD sources).
