Congrats to your new PC ... and I think that will be the future (also in here) that the principal will be quality we can obtain when encoding to DVD-R (as the DVD media prices will lower much more in future!). I think in one Year internal DVD burners will be the same as standard as now are CDR/W drives

So whats your purpose?
Burning more than one movie to one (4.37 GB!! ... 4.7GB is just a marketing fake! just to let you know this) media or just doing a 1:1 Safe Backup containing everything of the orig.?

Im "right now" doing safe backups of exactly these mentioned two movie-parts on two DVD-5's (the 4,37 GB ones).

BUT I do have the normal versions which means not the 200 and more minutes versions.

but anyway .... you got two options.

1. Doing your job using DVD2one or Shrink DVD .. there you also can choose which audio track has to be left so the movie quiality won't suffer that much. (in case of LOTR I wouldn't go over 2 Audio tracks! .. 1 Audiotrack would give the movie a much better quality)

2. And not for noobs ... doing the remux way using IFOedit and its internal TmpgEnc Template (forced GOP construct!!) creator. So you can enjoy the better compression of the NOTCH matrix .. because (like in this case of over 170mins movies the compression using "transcoders " as mentioned above will go down to 50%!!! and therefore the quility WILL suffer ... but you have to try ... as LOTR contains much dark scenes whre a pre-analysing of ShrinkDVD halps a bit.
But u should read some commends at doom9.org or somewhere else how to do it. I did the IFOedit reencode way a several times on PAL MOVIES and it worked well but I never did NTSC ones (but I can assume what to do in case of 3:2 Pulldown ... but I can't give you a "practice"Guarantee)

well firstly I do own noth movies I'm doin this as me first DVD project because its a christmas gift for a cousin he has the same dvd player as me so its easy enough to know if it will work for him too.

So you suggest I just do it as a normal dvd - dvd-rw encode and burn?

I'll have a gander in the doom9 hostile forums and hopefully get a successful first go (heres hoping lol)
