352x480 and 16:9 widescreen is not compatible?

I have used the 1/2 DVD template to create a number of MPEG 2's that I want to put on DVD. My resultant files are 352 * 480. When I load them into TMPGenc DVD Author to create my DVD I get an error saying 352*480 and 16:9 widescreen is not compatible.

Am I missing something? Can this setting be overread? Am I doing something wrong?

Hi gidxg03,

352x480 must be encoded as 4:3, for DVDs. Not as 16:9 :)
Use DVDPatcher to change the header of your mpeg file to 4:3, then TMPGEnc Author will take it.

if 352x480 must be encoded as 4:3 for DVDs than a simple header patch via DVDpatcher won't work .... well cause I understand in a 16:9 encoding that it will be encoded in an anamorph state?

So everything depends on what he did ... encoding anamorph with a 16:9 flag set in the header or just only the header flag set to 16:9 ... :)

Thanks for the replys guys. I used 1/2 DVD template (352 * 480 NTSC). I changed video arrangement method (in advanced) to full screen (Keep aspect ratio). I did not touch aspect ratio which is 16:9 display as default (if this is an illegal setting should the default not be 4:3 when you load this template?).

With these settings will the patcher work? (and save my ass from having to reencode about 7 films)

Thanks again.

The thing is, 16:9 is not allowed for 352x480(576) in the DVD standard :!:

somehow 1/2 kdvd on 16:9 does work for me......

Somehow 1/2 KDVD on 16:9 anamorphic does work for me.

I use Virtualdub for subs and rezising to 352x576 (PAL).
Tmpgenc KDVD 1/2 KDVD template. (1:1 vga)
DVDpatcher for the header. (for 16:9 header patching)
And Spruceup for authoring.
Spruce accepts the 1/2 KDVD files with no problem.
Only thing is the ifo files that Spruceup makes are always 4:3.
Even if the movie is 720x576 16:9.
I correct that with ifoedit.

It works like a charm on my Philips and JVC standalone player.

By the way thanks KWAG for the great templates.
