Creating an Audio CD With TMPGEnc
 

I downloaded a TMPG template that claims to allow a user to burn up to 3 hours of audio on an 80 min cd. But the template looks like any other tmpg template (i.e., has input windows for video, audio, etc.), and it gives no indication of what steps to take in order to even load the hundred or so songs a 3-hour cd could take.

I think this would be a really neat thing to be able to do. Does anybody have any idea how such a marvelous feat might be accomplished? Any pointers would be appreciated.

What you are talking about, is an Audio VCD.

Thanks for your prompt reply, Kwag. That is why your site is the best- the level of help provided here is far above any place else I have been.

I went to the Audio VCD thread and read the discussions. Problem is, much of it was above my head. Apparently, somebody on Doom9 wrote a simple guide that even a noob like me can follow, but the link to the guide no longer works. I will try reading the thread again to see if I can piece together how to put ~5 hours of music on a cd.

The basic trick to do an Audio VCD, is just to encode a "black" video stream (no video selected) at a very low constant bitrate. For example, at about 300Kbps, and then encode your audio at 224Kbps stereo.
