HI all!

i got a 192Kbps 44.1KHz 883Mb wav file extracted out of the vob files of once DVD i'm trying to transform into a kvcd.

i'd like to know if i can (and how!!) reduce the bitrate from 192 to 128, and if doing this will reduce the final size of the encoded mpeg that will be comitted to the (K)Vcd.

i know by heart how to reduce a mp3 bitrate from 192 to whatever i want, but not sure if it "should" be done with audio from DVDs and the results.

thanks for any input!!

PEACE to all.

Your "wav" file extracted from a vob isn't a wav, nor a mp3 but an ac3 file (a wav file have a bitrate of 1536 kbps as DVD are 48 Khz and not 44.1 Khz !). So it MUST be converted to mp2 (not mp3) to be used with a KVCD.

So, no matter the loss you will have, the operation is mandatory.

I recommand you to use besweet or headac32che for this operation, and to target a bitrate of 128 Kb/s.

Dialhot,

thanks a lot for your reply and explanations, but.......

you left me with more doubts than before....

the problem is, i never did any work on the audio files i extract from the Vobs. and i guess they are real wav files, because i can play them with winamp or any other wav player. but maybe that doesnt mean anything....

just so u can understand, i get them when i use Dvd2Avi and save the .d2v projectg. along i get these audio files.

when i'm about to "make" the final mpeg file for the kvcd (or Xvcd, or dvd-small), i use Tmpeng and use these audio files as the audio source, and the .avs script generated with FitCD as the video source.

so... am i doing something wrong?

thanks for any help and info....

PEACE and merry X-mas!!

Hi,

You're not doing anything 'wrong' but it's not the "preferred method" to encode the audio with TMPGEnc. As DialHot said- you should use BeSweet or HeadAC3he to encode the audio because they are better audio encoders

wave file has extension- .wav
AC3- .ac3

BeSweet and HeadAC3he will accept either as input to encode to .MP2 at 128 kbps.

Then after you have encoded the now smaller audio file you can use that as audio input with TMPGenc----- or --- use BBmpeg to join the audio and video files (which is the preferred method)
