KVCD Processing Time?

Just wondering what typical processing times are for people? In summary, this is how I do mine:

-DVD rip using SmartRipper
-Convert to ".d2v" using "DVD2AVI" (this creates a .d2v file and an .ac3 sound file). Caution must be taken to produce a .d2v file that is
compatible with AVISynth's mpeg2dec3.dll pluging. DVD2AVI v1.76 works ok, v1.77.3 does NOT.
-Convert AC3 to mp2 using "HeadAc3he"
-Create a script with cropping/filters for AVISynth
-Load AVISynth Script into TmpgEnc, save the project as "Text" file
-Load the saved Tmpgenc file with "CQMatic", setup for desired output size
-Convert movie (this takes about 4h on my system)
-Multiplex sound (MP2) and movie (MV1) into MPEG-1 non-standard Video CD (MPG)
-Burn .mpg file using Nero.

The actual Tmpgenc encoding part takes the longest amount of time, and it averages about 4 hours for a 110 min movie.

My setup is AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (333Mhz FSB) with 512MB ram and 7200rpm (8MB) HDD. Is that typical/slow/fast?

I presume that the various filters will have an effect on processing time?

I do not understand the purpose of making this "mine is bigger than yours" contest. Can you explain this to me ?

And you presume correctly. It depends also on the resolution used, the priority you give to the process on your PC and a lot of other things. So there is nothing to compare there.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend. I was simply curious in case some of my settings were out of order.

I realize that various factors will influence performance, but 4h for a 110 min movie seemed like a lot. I've heared of numbers like 1.5-2 x RT, with slower systems.

I wasn't trying to "brag" (4 hours doesn't seem like bragging rights anyways :) )

Maybe he's just asking a "ball park" figure to encoding time, compared to other processors
At least, that's the way I understand it :!:

These guys try to make you think theirs are bigger than yours ! That all.

With tmpgenc, encoding at your rate (0.5x) if quite fast. Except if you encode in 352*288. If yes, you have a problem :-).

But give at least the resolution you use, the script you have and the avs version also !

Let's compare what is comparable !

you are paying bill Gtax, pck.
with celeron 933mhz (100mhs fsb) and ordinary 5400rpm hdd
it is about 2.5 *movie_time to encode, with resolution 480x576, all filters and slowest encoder options.

Sorry, what is bill gtax? :?:

2.5 x RT works out to about 4.5h for your system then? I will post my script/settings when I get home.

russiansexpat 12-22-2003 03:16 PM

i haven't done any processing optimization yet, i use all highest values for filters and encoder options.
however, Bill G. can't tax my system and the only time i spend on viruses is reading newspaper articles about them.

Bill Gates Taxes
( russiansexpat runs on Linux, and is encoding with Linux encoders ( mencoder, ffmpeg, etc )

On my Pentium III 733mhz system, encoding a 2 hr movie at 704x480 takes about a week- but it goes a little faster if I don't have too much adware loaded

On an overclocked 1800xp JIUHB DLT3C Athlon running at 2530mhz real and 221fsb its fast ;-)

But even at this using AVS 2.0 and Golddust on max size and 29.976 ... gives you a "feel free to go into holidays"

I wonder how many YEARS it would take to encode a movie in my 1.77Mhz ATARI 400 with 48KB RAM

I think the Commodore was 1Mhz, just like the Apple II
The Atari 800/400 was (is) a faster machine, because it has better sub-system chipsets (ANTIC, GTIA, POKEY, etc.)
