FFMPEG: Ffmpeg and windows, where are we now ?
Hi all,
Some times ago Kwag (I guess :?:) released a windows version of ffmpeg. I tested it but I droped it because th soft was still too buggy. Were are we now ? Is it possible to have a windows version of the last linux ffmeg version up to date ? Thank you. |
|
If I understand well, that's the version you still released for windows weeks ago ?
But, if that version is so bugged, how people here can use it for making KVCD ? It seems that at least russianexpart uses it. I surely missed something ;-) |

Unless it's for viewing on the PC, because it's a muxing mess :!: Quote:

First off I didn't have a problem with FFmpeg 0.4.8 it might have been a bug in the compiling of windows. But russianexpart uses mplayer (mencoder) to encoder the video and ffmpeg for the audio, but i think ffmpeg is obsolete now with mplayer 1.0pre3.
Edit: russianexpat uses a script to process the video and audio separately then puts it though a different muxer. |

The real problem there is that my PC is on 24/7 for doing a lot of things and I don't want to switch it off just to encode a video. That's why I was looking a reliable ffmpeg windows version. But it does not exist, so I'll continue without it. |

But again since I don't know your reasons I am going to shut up :) . |

PS: I do own 2 Pc (1 P4 and 1 Athlon) but is still not enought for my needs. :-) and I doubt I can use my good old 486DX33 for encoding  |
I'd love to see ffmpeg encoding on BeOS
That would sweep the crap of just about any current Linux or *BSD distro :!: Shame that Be inc. sold it :( Now who knows if the OpenBEOS will ever be finished :!:  Sorry for the off topic, but I just had to say that :hihi: -kwag |

Also that?s cool that you aren't against Linux and you?re a Unix software development engineer. Because I am trying to get a Linux certification and that?s cool that we have a lot of people on this forum that know Unix based software. |

FYI my unix workstation at work has a 180 Mhz CPU and run a lot faster than my 1.4Ghz Pentium 4. Quote:

I 'm currently working on HP workstation (B180) but this is just a front end to THE real piece of hardware : a V-class superdome (12 CPU, 20 GB of memory :-)) |

But this  http://www.digitalfaq.com/archives/error.gif http://www.mosix.org/pics/index.html will make a superdome feel like an ant  -kwag |
Don't be offended but that kind of project makes laughting every people already involved in parallel hardware. What is the real purpose of having all this complete computers hanged up in a cupboard (do you really need all those floppy drives ? ;-)) ? To make people say "whaoooowww". And that works :-D
I worked on a PARAGON (1024 Intel i866 CPU) that has the power of a CRAY XP-1 for the 10th of the price (and yeah, I also had access to a XP-1 :-P). Other systems (do not remember the names ) had up to 65535 processors. And I'm talking about machine existing 10 years ago. The G5 cluster designed by Apple do not use complete MAC G5. Only the mother boards are wired together :-) |
Kwag all those POSs make it into one big point of sale.
If computers are what I think they are. |

The price of the Intel hardware is very cheap :!: Are you aware that these kinds of clusters are currently being used at NASA and other science entities :?: Quote:

Specially in number crunching applications. Quote:
So 1024 CPUs of that time is maybe the equivalent of 100 processors of the current technology today :) Quote:
I always liked Motorola's architecture ( my original training was on 6800, 6809 and 68000 processors). They are a joy to program. Not the stupid segmented Intel arquitecture  Hell, I even had more fun programming my old ATARI 800 in 6502 assembler :!: Man, those were fun days :!: ( Now I should go cry to the Nostalgia forum :hihi: ) -kwag |

People at the Nasa don't go in the nearest computer shop and buy all the units avalaible :-) I think in your mind you are mistaken (and such photo does not help :-)) real clusters and clusturized PC (or grid compting, that is using several PC linked throught a network to do a job). Quote:

Back to the topic: we're still not so far in ffmpeg mod for windows?
Is there a way to implment notch matrix, and to use avs scripts (or other similar scripts)? If it so great advantage above TMPG why it's dumped? :? |
I don't understand all these itching around ffmpeg.
Sure, it is the fastest encoder so far, but now it is fully incorporated into mencoder as libavcodec and I don't use ffmpeg for video or audio any longer. I use toolame for audio encoding and mencoder libavcodec (it is a full port of ffmpeg). If you use mencoder, you don't have to encode video and audio separately, mencoder is doing mux now. I split the resulting .mpg file only for two reasons: a) to be able to image it into multiple CDs; and you can do that without even a multiplxer, just use http://mpgtx.sourceforge.net/ b) I use _variable_ audio bitrate, and right now it can be done only with toolame. With my celeron 933mHz mpeg1 produced in 1x real time scale, so what the point go faster? Take a look or better try it: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7771&start=35 P.S. mplayer/mencoder likely already ported to windows, but I personally even don't play 1st person shooters in windoze, because they are twice slower there. |
Quote:
- can we put the Notch matrix in mencoder ? - can we use scripts* ? Without these two things what you are doing is fast, but not really a KVCD. edit : *I do not mean unix shell scripts there but of course avs scripts, to be used as source in mencoder (does it accept pipes ?) |
@russian
And where is possible to download mencoder for windows? And how use this script of yours? (maybe small how-to) Of course we like to use our avs scripts, so ... |
mencoder(mplayer) is not available for Windoze.

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design6/projects.html
see section windows. Yes, mencoder works with pipes (fifos) and urls, I can encode straight from http link or device. any intra and non-intra matrix can be put as a command line parameter. |

Mencoder 4 win could be find on
http://armory.nicewarrior.org/projects/cygmp/ So, we're going to test it? ;) |
Cool :-)
|
.. yet use of it is another story :)
And do mencoder needs this libavcodec library (i assume it's dll), or it is implemented? If needs, lets go serch for it :driveby: |
Quote:
Last time I checked, there was a message clearly stating that the software wasn't available for Windows. :P Thanks for the update 8) :D -kwag |
realy?
..o wait, and what is this http://armory.nicewarrior.org/projec...r-20031126.exe I've foud this in section Windows on site pointed by "russian". Second link. PS: I dont know if it's ok to put a direct link to the file. If not, direct me, and I'll clean this. |

7.2. Encoding to MPEG format [...]this feature is not very useful right now, aside that it probably has many bugs[...] :-D BTW, we will see that quicly. |

This was long outstanding situation, that's why I used ffmpeg for audio and mencoder for video. Last November they finally added audio encoding and audio filters, so I can do this and even resampling frequency into 48kHz (still they don't have my favorite audio vbr :| so I use toolame). Also, I've tested deinterlacing on ugly .wmv streams and it's ok. My respects to http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7962 He actually done most of original work, I just experimented with many options in mencoder. |
@russian
Ok. I have 3 scripts for KVCD, SVCD and KSVCD from the site you recommendet. But how to use it in windows version of mencoder? |
Don't despair. There is a solution:
http://home.earthlink.net/~penguinrox/ |
:cid: very funny I mustsay :imstupid:
I thought that this is KVCD forum, and not ALL YOU WINDOWS USER SWITCH OVER TO LINUX forum :cluebat: I've used linux for about half a year, but geting error mesago of any aplication 3 times a day (because it support wersion x.xxx1 and will never support version x.xxx2) is very flustrating. I will use windows until this "linux zoo" will exist :stickeye: So unless you don't have ansver for me .. dont bother |
Quote:
What are you using in linux to achive that? Please share with us... :D If I can achive that I might get Linux a big fat space in my HD again... :D |
"Mpeg-1 video with an average bit rate of ~500kbs that almost looks like the original DVD on my TV" means only one thing : that's a really small TV ! (or a really crappy DVD player)
