Hi, I'm having some trouble producing a widescreen image that will display correctly on both a 4:3 tv and 16:9 tv. My source is vcd res 352x240 and is encoded with black bars (the "normal" size, not the "thick" ones. Sorry I don't know my aspect ratios better!). What I want to do is cut off the black bars and encode as anamorphic so that it fits correctly on a 16:9 tv set, but then when viewed on a 4:3 tv set it will add the black bars accordingly. I have no problems doing this in CCE, but am having some confusion doing the same in tmpgenc. Namely, the arrange method, the source aspect (in Advanced tab) and destination aspect (in Video tab). Can anyone please help me?

P.S. I prefer using MovieStacker with GripFit, if that is at all possible

Please, can someone try and help me? No matter what I do I either get it looking fine on 16:9 but stretched on a 4:3 tv, or it looks fine in 4:3 (letterboxed) but on 16:9 becomes too sqaushed.

Hi J-Wo,

Have you tried using Bicubicresize (via Moviestacker) instead of Gripfit

hey Kwag. Yes, I did try using LanczosResize instead of Gripfit but I couldn't get it to work. But finally, after LOTS of trial and error, I figured out that it was the 352x240 vcd resolution that was screwing things up. I changed my gripfit line to use 352x480 which is half DVD resolution, and finally I was able to get things to work. If I could figure out how to encode at 352x240 that would be great because it would save me disc space but if not, I'm just happy I got things to work!
