Strange problems creating KVCDs?
 

I have a DivX file (Donnie Darko). It plays fine on screen, and DivFix110 shows no problems with it. The sound is MP3, and ripping it to WAV is fine with VirtualDub. I have tried to create PAL KVCDs with TMPGEnc using KVCD, KVCDx2 and KVCDx3 settings, and the picture looks fine as it is encoding. I then use VCDGear to create a bin and cue file, which burns fine.

The problem comes up when I attempt to play the KVCD, as I get a strange green flashing screen, with the film going on behind it. It is unwatchable, but the screen looks perfect when I fast-forward it at any speed (x2, x4, x8, x16, x32). The DVD player is a Mustek V562, which plays everything great. I have downloaded KVCD films that were ready to burn, and they play fine. I just have massive problems encoding them myself from DivX files.

Can anyone advise on what is going wrong?

I get the green flashing screen on my Alba DVD119 when playing KVCD's in anything other than the standard VCD resolution (352x288). So it could be a resolution thing.

Get a copy of the KVCD test image file and try this on your Mustek. You can get it here, http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2464

Then you will know which resolutions your standalone accepts. :wink:

I assume you did encode an mux a MPEG1 file larger than 352x288(240), right?
There are Standalones which doesn't support mpeg1 and high resolutions.

So you should try in your case of higher resolutions an encoding using mpeg2 and if the CQ value by this comes out to small (mpeg1 compresses more), you also should do a try to encode at 352!x576(480) using mpeg2 as it's the CVD standard and should be supported by most Standalones.

Try muxing with an svcd wrapper also...
My dvd player needs it.
I also add an empty 7 second black screen video as the first thing on the KVCD, so the picture has time to come up (otherwise you get a blank screen for the first 7 seconds...).
