HC 0.11 beta

Changes:
- GUI updated, many bugs fixed
- preview option added
- TFF/BFF flag added for interlaced encoding
- shows Avisynth script errors
- max. bitrate is written in sequence header instead of 9800
- minor changes in bitrate control for bitrate < 2000 kb/s
- AUTOGOP option didn't work if scene change detection was switched off, fixed
- bitrate now in kb/s, m2v file size in Kbytes (1 kbit = 1000 bit)
- MPEG matrix is set as default matrix

get it at: http://hank315.dyndns.org/HC_011.zip

Nothing really changed in the encoding engine except for bitrates < 2000 which should give a slightly better result.

Hank,
Your app. really puzzles me
I'm still on my W2000 (SP3) laptop (P4 - 1.6 Ghz - 512M)

1/ when I unzip the package (either with winrar or winzip), the explorer hangs for nearly 15 second !
2/ when I launch HC for the first time, I also suffer this hang for several seconds. Next open are immediate.
3/ I can't open two times in a raw an avs script as source ! HC hangs forever while analysing the source parameters

I wonder how Inc and Karl do ?

(note: I also have AVG free and Norton Corporate Edition as permanent virii shields. but this don't give me problems on other softwares).

Seems to be a problem with some anti-virus programs, this was posted at doom9 from someone who was having trouble with avs input:

Quote:
Works fine on my W2k SP4, too... Now...
I found out that antivir (free-av.com) causes all the problems. After having deactivated the "AV-guard" the encoder opened my *.avs without problems, giving me opportunity for heavy testing!
The archive was zipped in a normal way, the exe file is compressed with UPX, it writes nothing in the registry or other "dirty" things so I really don't have a clue...

So maybe it's the anti-virus program

First trial with the new release and I see the same problem that Phil is having.
I'm on a PIII-450 with 128MB under XP_PRO SP2.
With McAfee v7.0.0 "on-access scan" enabled or disabled I get this problem.
Never seen a 277KB tool taking so long to open ~30seconds.
Even if I close it and run it again right away.
@Hank315
1 - Could this have anything to do with the new preview window, even if it is set to disabled?
2 - Could you still provide the CLI version? I bet you'll figure out what's happening with the GUI version but that way we could see what's going on with the new compressibility fixes
Cheers m8

I think many AV programs have problems with UPX compressed files. When I scan my HDs with F-Secure, the folder where I leave all the downloaded stuff takes forever and most of the time is spent on scanning the self-extracting archives which are UPX compressed.

Changed the download version to a non-packed executable.
Just download it again and see if it helps...

Still the same link: http://hank315.dyndns.org/HC_011.zip

@Boulder
Thanks for the tip, i'm not running any anti-virus stuff so i never noticed it.

Note: you should use an AV tool

Great, great encoder, hank315.
Fastest encoder on my system yet (and good quality to go with it).
Is there a way to batch encode?
I encode about 4 anime episodes at a time and it would be nice if the encoder does one after the other.
Also, can you add a prompt for overwrite if the output file already exists?
After an encode and encoding done message, I accidentally pressed enter twice and HC started to encode again, I stopped immediately to check if my previous .m2v was saved, but it was not .
Oh well, another 4 hours of re-encoding.
Thank you for an excellent encoder and keep up the good work.

ATM i'm working on a batch version which will take command line arguments in the way Quenc does.
It will run in a command prompt window but the encoding engine is the same as the GUI version.
Not every option will be supported, some general options will be in the ini file but the next arguments will be supported:
-i input file
-o output file
-b average bitrate
-maxbitrate
-aspectratio
-ini HC.ini file for all other settings

Doing it this way it can also be used with DVD-Rebuilder.
Will be ready in a week or so...
