KVCD: can I Improve Action Scenes?

Hi everyone, this is my first posts. I am really excited with your
templates Kwaq, thank you very much.
I capture from VHS in 704x576 and then I use TMPGEnc with
KVCD PLUS with the same resolution, My question is, can I
improve in some way the quality of action escenes? Can I rise
the quality level from the seetings menu or the maximun bitrate?
I don't know if that can solve my problem, I notice some square
blocks in that action parts.

First off you could increase the CQ but that will raise the final file size as well, next raising the bitrate could do the trick but again will increase the final file size, lastly you could reduce the frame size to svcd resolutions or vcd resolutions that might do it for you.

I'm really more concern about getting the best picture quality, for me the space is less important because i'm not encoding films, only clips.
I can try to increase quality level to 100%, but about max bitrate i want 160 kbps for audio so i don't know if i can increase video bitrate because of the 2500 bitrate limit for VCD.
What do you recomend, use MPEG2 to be able to increase max bitrate above 2500?
Another question, i capture VHS in 704x576, do I loose quality if i encode in 480x576 SVCD PAL format?

You should not lose much in the way of quality encoding in 480x480 or 480x576, though it should help you clean up the macro blocks in high motion scenes that you are talking about.
If you have a good clean source then you you should get good results. The main problem maybe that you are capturing from vhs, not a digital source such as a DVD, analogue will always give results that are poorer than digital.

Personally I use MPEG-2 with 480*480 resolution and CQ at 65 with a maximum of 4000 and minimum of 1800, quality is really great and file size is not so big.
A great things to do to optimize action scene is to change the motion search precision to High Quality (Highest takes much more time and does not really improve quality).
