Widescreen vs Full screen? film takes small proportion of screen?

I was just wondering when i encode my movies with the script, when there is film that fills the whole screen, i put in the grip crop 704, 576 and when the film takes a very small proportion of the screen i do 720, 576.

Then in tmpenc in the source aspect ratio i have 4:3 625 line (pal 704, 576).

This produces the screen where there is a tiny bit black bars on bottom and top which is how i like it. Is this the correct way? I don't like my movies when they are full screen or when the black bars take up a lot of proportion of the movie.

Thanks

You should never do 720 or 704 if you are doing KVCD. It's too much ! Or you do all your KVCD in 2 CD but you miss one of the benefits of KVCD : to put a movie on a single CD !

BTW, if you want to, use always 704. It's as good as 720 and you save some precious bits.

You are not the one that decide ! That is the director of the movie that decide to shoot it in 1.85:1 or 2.35:1 aspect ratio !

A movie should never been put in fullscreen if it wasn't shot like this as it is a complete spoilage of art. I really hate people acting like this.
