Tried using the SKVCD_PAL to encode a 46 minutes avi (Farscape episode) & I get 847MB of MPEG2 file.

I didn't touch any of the template configuration. Is there a way to reduce the file size so that I can burn it in one CD?

TIA

shiraz

did you try to load it into nero or your burner sftwr?
I have a couple svcds that size with 60 mins of video that fit on a 80min disk, but you can always try to lower the audio bitrate to sneak it on. I'm sure others will give better tips.

@shiraz,
You encoded a Farscape Episode, which is a "Full Screen" series. The template times are estimated for "Wide Screen" movies. So for a "Full Screen" your time will be shortened.

yes, I use Nero and yes I have demux and re-encode the audio from 160 to 128 but still I got around 827MB. Still cannot fit one CD

Kwag
Is there anyway that I can do to make it to fit one CD? I don't mind sacrificing the quality a bit but I still want it to be in full screen

Will I make the audio file smaller if I change to stereo or j-stereo?

regards,
shiraz

Hey mamushiraz,

You are so close to the right size... isn't there any final credits that you can cut off?
Or, you can lower a bit the CQ_VBR setting, I think that just 1 point will do the job... you will loose some quality, but not much.
Or, you can lower even more the sound bitrate. If the surround information is not important to you, you can go for 112kbps j-stereo.

In order to fit i CD I have to reduce the CQ to 72. Even then I got 711MB. I just use overburning. Quality is acceptable. Oh yeah...the sound set to 128kbps.

Anyways, since Kwag change the template to 320x576 I wonder if I can still get the same size with the CQ or do I have to reduce it some more? Feedback please.

Hey mamushiraz,

You can burn a 800mb (s)vcd in a 80min CDR without ouverburn!
When you said that you got around 827mb... you had to cut only 27mb!

I'm sorry but you got me confuse here. I got 2 type of CDR with me, one says 700MB/80Min and the other says 780MB/90Min.
I've never seen a 800MB/80Min before.

Can you please x-plane??

VCD's use Mode-2 to store data. Basically you can fit more data on a CD than using regular Mode-1, because Mode-2 doesn't use triple error correction like Mode-1 does. So a 74 minute CD fits 740MB and a 80 minute CD fits 800MB in Mode-2.

Oh! OK. So how do I know I am using mode 1 or mode 2? Is there a specific software/hardware/CDR Media Type that I should use when burning the CD or its already taken care by the software burner. FYI I'm using Nero.

This is new to me. How you don't mind explaining

mamushiraz

BTW Kwag will I get the same file size if I use the 352x576 SKVCD template. The one I got is using the 352x480?

Nero always use Mode 2 for vcd or svcd. You can check it at the ISO options when you are creating a new compilation.

Note: You have to close the wizard.

@mamushiraz,

Every VCD authoring program uses Mode-2 for writing. VCDEasy, Nero, etc.

Every day I like more and more VCDEasy...
Hey mamushiraz, try it! You can add to your VCD the same chapeters of the DVD!

VCD Easy is awesome! I hardly ever use Nero anymore. Sometimes getting the CDRDAO to work is a little tricky though- FRCEASPI usually gets it working.

"Nero Nero on the wall" . What's that
I stopped using Nero about 8 months ago ( or more! )
VCDEasy is just way over it in features. Just the chaptering feature is enough to say bye bye to Nero
I wonder why Ahead ( makers of Nero ) haven't done that yet

Have you tried changing the drivers on VCDEasy?
Under "Settings/CDRDAO/Force Driver and change the drivers there.

So if all VCD/SVCD running in mode2 then how do you get to fit 800MB in a 80MIN CD without overburning?
