KVCD: Problem with 704X480 1-CD template

Hello, I think this template KVCD 704X480 is really great but need to know if there is a way to soften the block noise and what is the max movie length this will work with? I tried it with JOHN Q and the file size was 899mpeg. I think the output video is really crisp but can notice the blocks. Please help. Thanks

Hi Holomatrix,
The quality depends greatly on the input material. You'll get different results with different movies. The estimated time for each template is posted under each template in the download section. If you want the best quality, use the PLUS templates.

I am using the template KVCDx2 1-CD, which looks crisp but wanted less blocks. I'm converting from DVD. Do you have a guideline as to using the above template as to what CQ value yields what meg per min? What I'm after is a one cd encode with the crispness I get with the above template but less blocks. I know I could do a two cd encode which would look way better but I want to see what I can do with one cd. Can I blend in the blocks somehow?

EDIT: Also what do you use to create the Cd image? with movies over 90min I can't do it. I just encoded Resident Evil which is 100min ~812meg and if I use VCDeasy or VCDimager the image size is now 924meg which is not going to fit on my 80min CD's. I've tried to create the image as VCD 1,2 and SVCD with no luck.

You should be able to overburn that 812MB image, but somehow the data is being padded, and that's why the image is so big. Can you demux the video and audio streams and re-mux them again? Follow the screen shots a little down this thread: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic....6e07d81b5385c7
And then you burn your image with VCDEasy as VCD 2.0 and remember to "un-check" the mpeg compliancy check on the first screen of VCDEasy.

Ok, thanks. I'll check it out.

EDIT: everything is fine now with the cdimages, problem was not with the image creation but with the muxing of the A/V stream. Depending on what stream you are creating depends on how you tell bbMpeg to mux it. I was creating CVD's mpeg2 and had bbMpeg set to mux as a mpeg2 stream which was wrong. I made sure VBR was set and Forced mux rate set to 0 then muxed and the image was created properly.
Hope this helps.
