Unable to compile mpeg1 DVD over 3GB?
I posted the following in the DVDlab forum after having problems trying to compile a DVD over 3GB. I used the kvcd template with:
MPEG-1 352x240 29.97fps CQ 70, Layer-2 48000Hz 64kbps Quote:

I did with no problem a DVD with Tmpenc Author with 38 KVCD MPEG-1 in each (near 14 hours of movie), animated menus, and all the stuff. And it was other 4.3 GB (I had to shrink it a little with dvdshrink before burnig).
I remember that I add a problem once on DVD-Lab because I used a temp directory that was'nt on the same disc ! I just uncheck "use temp" and all was okay ! The symtom was the same has yours : dummy compile was okay, full compile failed (but I did not chek if the size was 3GB or more). |
I'm going to do the same with MPEG2.
No probs so far, as I didn't start authoring yet (shame on me :D) |
You shouldn't use MPEG2 for low bitrates.

I tried unchecking TEMP in DVDlab but had the same error.
Looks like I will have to try Tmpenc Author. I just put a lot of work into the DVD lab menus (after I had success with smaller disks) so I was hoping to figure it out. Anyone else have experience with mpeg1 and DVDlab with disks over 3gb or 14 hours? |
Success with Tmpgenc Author
Well I used Tmpgenc Author and the mpeg1 project compiled just fine over 3GB. I even did a different series that was over 5 GB that I hope to shrink with acceptable results (thanks for the idea, Dialhot).
The only drawback is that the menus aren't near as flexible as DVDlab but the video is easier to import and set up quickly since the templates autofill. I just wish they autofilled with the name of the video files so I didn't have to type in each episode/chapter title. I was also thrown by the play button on each menu page as it plays from the start of disc and not the start of the chapter/s displayed on the menu. Anyone know of an easier way to batch files with Tempgenc 2.5? I have to load each video and select the KVCD template for each file before adding them to the batch. Is there anyway of selecting several files at once with the same settings? |

But that was cartoons so I can live with the defaults. Quote:
