Is there an alternative to Hardcode's PULLDOWN.EXE?
I recently converted a Divx 23.976 fps video to KDVD. I used pulldown.exe to do a pulldown to 29.97 fps. I observed that it causes jerkiness ONLY during panning (camera moves slowly from one direction to another). I think pulldown.exe is causing this and I want to know if there is an alternative program. I use the simple command line
pulldown.exe XXX.mpv XXX.m2v Maybe I should be using more parameters, if so what are they? |
There isn't and if you understand pulldown correctly, you'll see that it doesn't make sense to exist. Pulldown doesn't actually change the frame rate, it only enables a flag in the stream telling the DVD player to convert 23.976 to 29.97 throught a process known as telecining. So the jerkiness must be in your 23.976 encoded movie already...

Does CCE have a reputation of creating jerky videos? I'm using CCE to convert Divx to KDVD.

Be carreful !
pulldown set the flag, that's true. But this flag is to say to the _player_ to do the pulldown. The pulldown operation is a work on the order (and number) of the frames the player is reading. Thus, the jerkiness can be due to a bad work done by the player. In other words, it does not exist in the video itself. |
Nice explanation, DialHot. About CCE: I do this kind of conversion all the time using CCE and never had problems of jerkiness.

I used DoPulldown by Woolsoft and it always says "finished with errors" with a red X. What does this mean?

Isn't there a manual ? Read it.
|
no there's no manual. How about DVDLAB? Is it a good program? Could it be the one causing the problem? What other DVD authoring software do you recommend?
|
Authoring soft never do anythign on the video content,so it's not the one to blame.
Your problem is either in the player, or this strange error you have and I never had. Use pulldown.exe directly from command line, to be sure. |
I've always noticed this jerkiness on my Panasonic S25 when playing my KDVDs encoded with CCE. I routinely let DVDlab do the pulldown but have tried pulldown.exe, but with the same result for both. I do notice the same jerkiness when I play the discs on my Sony 315S, and they do not exist in the source.

Thank God I'm not alone. Is it jerky on a PC?
