TMPGEnc Resizing filters better/worse than Avisynth?
 

A new member.

Hi, what kind of resizing filter tmpgenc uses? It's better or worse than AVISynth's simple resize, bilinear, or bicubic?

I don't know, because I never resize with TMPEG 8O
Use FitCD for best results, to resize and scale your source, and process the .avs script with TMPEG. It never fails :wink:

Sometimes when i use fitcd on a dvd source 720x??? the width are decreased from 720 to 704 and the hight increased.

When this happends, should i use bilinear, bicubic or both in virtualdub?

Use bilinear when down-sizing an image. Bicubic when up-sizing.

Since I was never able to get TMPGEnc to work with FitCD/Avisynth, it won't accept the .avs file, is there a brute force method to get the scaling and aspect ratio right in TMPGEnc?

I like to use the KVCDx2/1 disc template, but I've only been able to get maybe 90min on an 80min cdr. My latest attempts have been with the first 2 Austin Powers movies. Neither is over 90min and I had to cut off the credits on the first one and the second one just barely fit with the credits. Both are letterbox versions. I don't make any changes to the template, rip with SmartRipper, use DVD2AVI v1.76, and encode with TMPGEnc v2.56. Input video is set to 16:9 NTSC, Center Keep Aspect Ratio, output is set to 4:3.

Otherwise, I've been having great fun with this and have created some very nice vcds, MUCH better quality than my first attempts with standard, compliant vcds.

Hi Andy,
Try installing the new version of AviSynth. I've posted the link at the main page here at kvcd.net. See if you have better luck with the new version. I really process everything with an .avs script.

is there a way to save a TMPEG template so that the Source aspect ratio and Video arrange method settings are saved too as selected?

Yes, just save your template, after you set the parameters you want. But remember that when you open another source( avi, .avs, etc ), some parameters will be overwritten. So you must re-load your template, after loading a source. Always load your templates as the last step, just before encoding.

avisynth still not working
 

Hi Kwag,

I installed the latest version of avisynth. Registered it. Put the dll in the \windows\system folder (I'm using 98SE). TMPGenc still won't open the avs file generated by fitcd. Pointed fitcd to the mpeg2dec.dll file. I'm officially giving up.

Since I'm still having trouble with avs scripts generated by FitCd, I was wondering if it was possible to manually input the resizing parameters into TMPGenc. If so, how would I do it?

If you can open your .avs with WMP, and you can see the video playing, then the problem is with your priority settings on TMPEG.

I think I see part of my problem. My Environmental Settings in TMPGenc does not have the first one, Avisynth/VirtualDub script reader, ReadAVS.dll in it. Where do I get ReadAVS.dll and where do I put it on my system.
