DVD Compliant Mpeg-1 ?

I understand that the KVCDs we create are not strictly compliant with the DVD standard (res, bit rate, GOP etc.).

Is there a standard template that could be used that provides DVD compliant Mpeg-1 files for authoring?

Thx

DVD standard supports MPEG-1, only at 352x240(288)
You can use all KVCD encoding techniques, and just change the audio to 48Khz, because that's needed for DVD compliancy.
And keep the GOP at a MAX of 18 (NTSC) or 15 (PAL).
That's just about it :!:

Since maestro didnt complain (not even a warning) of MPEG-1 at all the MPEG-2 resolutions (352x240/288 - 352x480/576 - 704/720x480/576) I think all players are able to play them, or at least 99%.

Maestro is usually really strict on standard, it won't even compile non-standard GOP lenght.

Thanks guys.

Thinking does not make a standard. And the standard is what Kwag mentioned.

I never said it was a standard.

That wasn't so obvious in what you said :

That's why I did the precision.

I wanted to say that even if it is not in the standard if maestro accepts it without warnings, it should be played on 99% of them

BTW, did someone heard about standalone that don't play KDVD with long GOP ? I tested on three different brands (Philips, Thomson and Pioneer), all worked correcly.

Thats seems to be also a "non standard compliant feature that 99% of the players accept" :-)

SO far everything I tried worked fine on my standalone (Pioneer DV444) except for 480x288, which didnt, it only filled 1/3 of the screen.

Didnt surprise me that such a weird resolution didnt work though

The same KVCD done with VCDEasy (even if I use Nero to burn the image) is okay !

I have also problems with 23.976 MPEG1 muxed as SVCD : there is purple square about 3cm by 3 flashing in the bottom right corner. But 23.976 is supposed to not be a correct framerate, so that is not a important.

Is the framerate of 23.976 a part of the DVD MPEG-1 support or does it need to be 29.97 :?:

Sadly, no :(
It must be 29.97fps.
So you might want to consider encoding 352x240 MPEG-2 at 23.976, with 3:2 pulldown.
That will give you better quality and space than MPEG-1 at 29.97fps.
Sorry I didn't point that out before
