MILAN IS BACK !!!

:ole:
Good news everyone   :drunkard:
It seems that Milan is back. He has updated ffdshow CVS, and it is new version from Athos, so maybe it is chance for FFVFW.
Post with information on doom9
:mnkypile:

rds_correia 02-25-2004 04:19 PM

Keep us up to date Hydeus

ffdshow is a decoder right ?? .. .. hence the xxdshow  ??

I'm wondering  why the hype for it. ffvfw uses it ?? ..and MEncoder too ??

hmm... I'm still wondering

Thanks for your patiance,

Hi vHelp.
FFdshow isn't even a decoder, it is only ds filter (as for media player you can say it is decoder, but for encoding/recoding aplication it is useles).
ffdshow, ffvfw and mencoder are based on the same engine called libavcodec, which is succesor/descendant of ffmpeg. This is all about.
ffdshow and ffvfw CVS are developed by Milan, and he has updated ffdshow CVS. For now even the last builds wasn't done by him, cause he was more commitment in ffvfw (at least till half of last year).

ds filter

Still don't get it.

I see lots of reading, where ffvfw and mencoder are mentioned, and ffsdshow
is always right around the corner. And, I'm always wondering  what is
ffdshow's involvement when these other encoder apps are being discussed :!:

..confused.

As I said. ffdshow is also based on libavcodec. It is also developed by Milan (like ffvfw). In fact ffdshow function filters are usable for filtering in ffvfw, but they aren't realy good (at least we beter know avs filters). From mencoder to ffdshow is long way away, if not counting the same core which is libavcodec. Thats it.
DS filter (AFAIK) it is decoder but it uses only DirectShow instrucions, so it can not be used separtly. I'm not expert on this, but I think that it goes something like this.

tuco1979 02-26-2004 09:13 AM

Because while ffdshow is a directshow filter it uses libavcodec libraries which is used for mencoder, ffmpeg, ffvfw and so on. So, any bug fixes to libavcodec means that if you get the latest snapshot of mencoder, for instance, it should be using an update libavcodec. However, only these fixes were applied to the libavcodec,

"updated libavcodec (now plays packed xvid b frame streams, some corruptions of picture after seeking)"

So for mpeg1/2 encoding, nothing has been done but since the main developer of libavcodec is back and is doing bugfixes, hopefully some of the mpeg1/2 issues can be resolved.

Dano 02-26-2004 10:01 AM

I am testing ffdshow from within ffvfw for analog capture to mjpeg doing realtime deinterlacing (using Cyberlink yuy2deinterlace, deinterlace in ffdshow does not work right) and using denoise3d. I then convert to mpeg1 from the raw avi, no need to use avisynth for filtering and get about 100 fps in CCE and 60 fps in TMpgenc. So far the results are quite fantastic.

OK. Keep your shorts. Milan has send response to me. Nothing concrete. I'll try to set constant conversation "chanel" with him.

I won't be here till tomorow, while I have killer headache :(

rds_correia 02-27-2004 05:10 PM

Hi Hydeus,
Hope you recover fast from those headaches.
Good thing Milan has contacted you.
Keep in touch.
Cheers

Hydeus 02-28-2004 05:01 AM

Hello everybody :D I'm much better now, but yesterday was a hell
The response from Milan is nothing really concrete. He already received my previous message, from time when we didn't know how to enable custom tables, till Rui found answer. Few more answers, for problems we already know how to solve. Problem is that his automatic spam filter is kind of tricky, and filters even important messages, so that was major problem. Milan also take a short vacation from ff-development, but this time it was too long (this are Milan's words).
At this time my idea was to establish reliable way of correspondence. I've got large experience with scientific researches in my domain, and I know that when you need experience of another person, first of all you have to establish good communication, and then ask questions and solves problems.
For now this is my first objective, when I get response, I’ll let you all know at the first place.
Stay in touch.

... waiting for feedback

Hydeus 02-28-2004 10:18 AM

Ok. I've foung reliable way in comunication with Milan. Just by mails, but now when he knows that this is my adres, his spam filter won't block me.
He now will try to improve ffvfw on libavcodec, but also on mpeg2enc part, while this engine supose to take some serious advantages in last couple of weeks.
For now I only sugested him to work on custom matrixes (he will build separate window for that), min and max bitrate limiter, and VBV issue, but this was hardest part to explain and we'll se if he understanded me. Milan visited our site, but he know just little about standalone MPEG 1/2 players, so probably it will take some time to learn this and that, for him.
It will be beter if Karl send some sugestions to Milan, cause I'm so big newbie, that it's even hard to explain how much

rds_correia 02-28-2004 11:21 AM

Hya,
Then if Karl tries to send him a message, he will get blocked as you did in the 1st place :?
I sugest that Karl send you an email so that you can ask Milan to open a whole in his spam
filter for Karl's address.
Hope that Karl doesn't mind that.
Might be better if you PM him :)
Cheers

I already did  Waiting for answer.

kwag 02-28-2004 02:24 PM

If Milan already checked the threads here, then he is already aware of the issues.
I'll just keep checking the time stamps on the ffvfw's CVS repository, watching for changes. No need to keep sending him E-Mails.

Hi guys,
Not only Milan is back, also he has been checking our thread.
But now he has registered in the forum :!:
Hope he drops us some lines one of these days.
Let's all give him a warm welcome.
