KVCD: Strange White lines?
 

On my last two encodes @ 352x576 PAL i've noticed some strange thin white lines on my tv when certain people move quickly. I havn't noticed these on any of my encodes at this res before and they are really noticable in this last film i encoded. I don't see the lines when viewing the film on my computer

Could my upgrade to tmpeg 2.57 be causing this. I've tried the files with several different cd-r and get the same result.

Any ideas?

Whats up JamesP, I dont know if we're having the same problem or not?
I have TMPGPlus 2.56, and i encode my avi movies with kvcd plus template 352x240.
Anyways, every so often in a fast/action scene, i'll see a white line flicker across the top of my movie.
I haven't noticed this flicker when i do wide screen encodes, just when i do 4:3 525line (NTSC) :?

Don't get me wrong, i appreciate what Kwag has done and im in no way complaining, but i just notice stupid lil things. I've had people with me watching the movies that i encode and they dont even notice these flickers every so often, but i notice them. Like i said, it's probably because i just notice stupid lil things and im the one who takes the time to encode these movies. *shrug* :roll:

I'm ripping ALI (PAL DVD). The white lines surround the actors (escpecially the boxing gloves) but flicker so aren't on screen for a long time. Maybe this film just doesn't like the template? :cry:

Are the lines vertical or horizontal, if they are horizontal it could be that your source is interlaced. A lot of studios are interlacing their DVD's because it makes them harder ( or at least more time consuming ) to back up. Run the vobs through DVD2AVI and watch the preview stats on the right, it should give you a good indication on whether it is interlaced or not.
If it's interlaced you can either have DVD2AVI de-interlace it or you could try IVTC in tpmeg.

I know the lines and it seems that I'm the only one who notices them too(because afterall, I am the encoder).

what worked for me is that i used CQ and I reduced the B picture spoilage to zero. I don't know why but this worked most of the time.
