Ripping DVD to DivX or Xvid?
 

To date I havn't had to worry about ripping DVD's as all of my DivX's have been downloaded from the internet. I've the Kdvd template setup in TMPGenc to covert these downloads to burn to DVD.

However a mate of mine has bought the Indiana Jones boxset and I'm thinking of ripping them and burning all 3 films to 1 KDVD or 2 KDVD's (with the bonus disc as well). So I have a few questions.

1/ Firstly what do you guy's use to rip the DVD? Am I right in assuming the best process is to rip the film and audio to a DivX or Xvid (not sure which is best) and then covert in the normal way?

2/ Is there a guide availible anywhere to walk me though the steps?

3/ I'm hoping to keep the origional menu's as well. Is this possible?

Yeah. And for that I suggest to you to use 320*240 as resolution for your Divx and 1pass 350 Kbit/s. No more (it's not necessary to lose space as the Divx will be erased after all).

I think you will find that on any "I want to do crap" site. There are a lot.

Yes but do them in 160*120 at step 1. Menu do not need to be done with such great quality.

PS: And thats the thing beside the illegal way and therefore probs to this forum .... some people just want to watch films, ... do steal, only know how to copy files in windows and now they looking for a way to bring that data to a SAP and that has to be explained fast .... no matter if its risky for forums owners etc.
