Best to use KVCD or KSVCD?

I have done quite a few kvcd with standard vcd res that play fine on my brothers standalone. But I have one Id like to do that is 480x480,so i can keep the quality high.It wont play kvcd at 480x480,the picture just pixellates but was wondering the best way to find a workaround. His player supports svcd so Im unsure if i should create an m2v stream,as opposed to an m1v,and then mux just the same way as usual. So i guess my question is can someone define for me the difference between a kvcd and a k(s)vcd as i cant seem to find a definitive guide.Any tips gratefuly received...

Simple : KVCD are MPEG1 muxed (and burnt) as VCD, KSVCD are MPEG2 muxed (and burnt) in SVCD.

Note also than as MPEG1 is better (visually) than MPEG2, if your player support it, you can do KVCD but muxed and burnt as SVCD (that's what I do)

In other words, for your problem the question is more "do I mux in VCD or SVCD ?".

Thanx very much phil, one more question though,am I okay to mux as an svcd with tmpgenc or am i best using something else?

I mux anything with tmpgenc with no problem; But it can be a matter of standalone. So test with yours before to process all your jobs.
