although bbmpeg says it doesnt support mp3 audio streams i tried to multiplex a mpeg-1 video stream with an mp3 audio stream. the vs was 1.36gig and the as was 284mb so i was expecting a filesize of around 1644mb the file size i got was 1420mb and when i was multiplexing it said the audio streams had a bit rate of 128kbps when the actual mp3 file has a bit rate of 256kbps. is this normal or is this because bbmpeg doesnt like mp3s as audio streams? and is there a program that supports mp3's as an audio stream for multiplexing?

You can encode to mp3 with TMPEG. Just set an external encoder, like Lame, and it will do the trick. Not sure if it will mux an mp3 file, by selecting the "Enable Multiplexing" option under the "Environment" tab.
You'll have to try that.

No, you can't. headac3he is just a GUI front end. It's not an encoder.
Go to TMPEG's environment settings and just put the mouse over the check box of an external plug-in, and a pop-up will show you the supported external programs that TMPEG allows.
