when I use ac3machine in order to encoder the audio (following the vmesquita guide of v2.00), I would want to know which is the min. bitrate for good quality. Moreover I would want to know which is the difference between: - Surround2 and 5,1 in Channels Mode.
thanks

Surround2 is a stereo stream compatible with DPLII receivers (that will recreate pseudo 5.1 soud from the stereo one)

5.1 is the real AC3 mode where all channels are really encoded in the stream.

Don't go below 320 in 5.1. 384 is better. 448 is "luxuous"
In surround2, all is like for mp2 : 112 is a minium, 128 is better, above is "fiesta"

in its guide vmesquita explains like using surround2.
If I wish to use ac3, the other options in ac3machine how they would have to be?

- Azid Downmix Levels:
checked - LFE to LR Channels -3db?

- Overall outpur Configuration.
checked - Channel Mode: 5.1 (ok)
checked - Dynamic Compression: light?
checked - Auto Find Maximun Gain?
checked - Use Dialog NOrmalization Reduction?

thanks[/b]

Unchecked.
This option has to be used when you reduce the number of channels from 6 to 2. That is not the case here as you want to stay in ac3.

No. Never use any compression.

Watch out that KDVD needs 48khz as you know and therefore 112kbit gives even less quality then if encoded in 44.100khz, so you shouldn't go below 128kbit at 48khz

That's a fact that I never (or rarely) go in 112 even for my KVCD
