i have xvid file 576x240 with 23.976 fps
to what do i have to convert ??? i want to keep the quality of the original file
my dvd plays ntsc & pal

without the length of the movie, there is not much to say.

Try 544*480 if less then 1h45. 480*480 if between 1h45 and 2h00. Do it in MPEG1 if your player can handle that, else in MPEG2 with 3:2 pulldown activated but do no change the fps in any case.
