hi,

i´ve been doing some conversion with some animes one of them is a xvid source one of my others is divx (v5). both of them have a resolution of 640x480.
now i have been able to convert the xvid-files to a kdvd format having only about 250mb files (not including the sound),
but when converting the divx files i get files that are about 600mb large.
for conversion i only used tmpgenc and the kdvd template (full d1) leaving the settings like they are when loaded into tmpgenc (except the resolution which i changed to 4:3 720x576)

why are there such big differences and how can make my divx-files smaller?
the only other difference, except the file-type, is that the xvid-files have smaller bitrate, is that the cause?

hope someobody can help and give some info on this

Send a message via ICQ to incredible
Let me assume:
You did just encode the source using TmpgEnc via CQ mode without doing a prediction before????

@ Inc: Analyze the question, take a look at the posted's number. Do you think that our partner has an idea what prediction is?

@ empag: Give a try to DIKO program. If you have not all software needed, convert it as usualy do, but first use CQMatiq program (search in forum) to obtain filesizes acording to your needs.

well i do know a little bit about that predicion stuff, been doing a bit of reading in this forum. but yeah, i´m still pretty lost with this encoding stuff.
i just thought that it would turn out about the same size, since i´m using the same template, and the sources are almost the same (except xvid divx).
well anyway, i´m gonna have a look at that cqmatic thing, since i´ve already tried diko, which also just gave me a 600mb file. (tmpegenc gave me the 250mb)
also diko didn´t quite work for me, cce crashes a lot and soundfiles sometimes ended up at about 300mb instead of the usual 25

well thanx for ur help u two.
i´ve gotta do some reading on cqmatic

well, just looked at the result of cqmatic, but its over 500mb instead of the 300 i set calcumatic to.
i used the small guide from kyuss i´ve found

http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic....hlight=cqmatic

i´ve set target to custom and the size to 300.

where did i go wrong here?

Probably nothing wrong. You are just "unlucky". There is no tool 100% accurate when is time to predict the CQ and it's possible that four your source, CQMatic actually fails.

Can you post the log file of CQmatic to see if everything went ok ?

All your "file size" are negatives so the prediction failed !
(see all hints in the CQMatic downloading thread)

-> use short pathname ! C:\kvcd for instance
