Aspect Ratio? 1:85:1 vs 16x9 ?

Didn't know where to post this

I am looking at the back of a dvd case and it says 1:85:1 Anamorphic Widescreen

but when i load 1 of the vob into avicodec it says 720*480 (2.21:1)

Is this normal to have it report different ratio's or could i be doing something wrong

Thanx

There is no way for a tools to find if a movie is 2.21 or 1.85 because all DVD are 4:3 (or 16:9 anamorphic -> that is the same :!:) and there are black borders INTO the picture if the oiriginal movie was 1.85 or 2.11.

So don't bother with what avicodec tells.

@ bigggt: The Picture on your TV is also 4:3 or 16:9
If the ratio of the DVD is different, your Player/TV will "resize" it to the correct ratio.
Just stop thinking about square Pixels ;)
Maybee this this (google translation)may help you understand, how the ratio functions in tmpgenc, works.
much success

If you got an wysiwyg html editor like Frontpage you can copy and past the side to a new .. maybe it will work also in "Word".
If not .. rightclick the page to show the source .. (Notepad) .. here you can save the file (rename *.txt to *.htm) but you have to save every picture, and put it in an "images" folder .. the folderstructure hasto look like this:
Quote:

..\
\html <--here you have to save the source text
\images<--here you have to save the images

jorel 04-11-2004 12:31 PM

no way Roc, loose the "formatation"
