DIVX/XVID to KDVD FOR DUMMIES ?
 

hmm..im bored so i decided to write a 'divx/xvid->kdvd for dummies guide'

i was readin the sticky tutorials and as soon as avisynth came in i went blah 8O so i used my past experience to come up with my own way of doing this. i kno avisynth is a very powerful tool but its jus that i got finals next week and i didnt wanna devote all my time and energy towards learning it, im sure eventually i will. but till then i'll describe what i did to make my first kdvd with the help of kwag of course(thank u kwag). its pretty simple if u got any questions about "my way" then ask me otherwise im still new at this :wink:

k im sure there is no piracy talk in this site so the situation we have is "i have a divx/xvid that i ___ and i wanna make kdvd out of it "

VirtualDub
NERO

WHAT I DID
1. open virtualdub and choose file->open and open ur avi file
a. if any message comes up click ok
b. choose audio -> no audio and video -> direct stream copy
c. choose file -> save avi and save the avi with no audio
d. choose audio -> full processing mode and then file -> save wav and save the wav file.
e. close virtualdub

2. go to http://www.kvcd.net/dvd-models.html and get KDVD Full D1 template for tmpgenc. i wasnt able to digest all the avisynth stuff so i decided to give this a shot and it worked lol. After you have it run tmpgenc. close the wizard and click on 'load' at the bottom and choose the template u downloaded from the site. then click on video and choose your avi that you saved without audio and make sure on the right it says ES(video only).

Now this part that I'm gonna explain is my own thing and if you want to you can skip it. What hapenned was I used diko and the file came out like 3 gb(obviously coz i didnt read avisynth properly) but bcoz of that i decided to change some settings. u can move to next step if you want to.

Ok so now click on 'setting' and in the 'video' tab i changed 'aspect rati'o to 4:3 display( the file came out slightly smaller than with 1:1 vga). then i changed 'motion search precision' to motion estimate search(fast). i feel that this speeds up the process i could be wrong.

3. now click 'ok' and you are back to the main window and now you are ready to make your m2v file. so hit start and let the program finish its job.

4. now its time for audio. i use tmpgenc because i ran into some compatibility problems with besweet. as usual open tmgpenc and this time you can use the wizard. i chose dvd-ntsc in the first screen and then clicked next. now choose the wav file that you saved from before and then click next three times till you see the output file screen. choose your output file and check the box which says output video and audio as elementary streams and uncheck the box which says start encoding immediately. then hit ok. now in the main window choose es(audio only) and then click on settings. here you can change the bitrate to whatever you are comfortable with. the standard is 384 kbps but i usually encode at 192 or 160 to make the file size smaller. i dont have a home theater system so it doesnt make any sense for me to give up audio space for high quality sound when i cant even make out the difference between regular tv and ac3 dolby surround. so when you are done choosing your bitrate hit ok and then start and wait for the program to finish. once its done your audio file is ready.

5. now the easy part. open tmpgenc dvd author and choose 'create new project'. on the right choose 'add file' and choose the m2v and the ac3/mp2 files you got from earlier steps. if you want to add chapters click on 'chapter cut edit' on top and choose the chapters(its pretty easy). after all that click ok and you are bak to the menu.

NOTE: I HAD 3 KDVD MOVIES (I.E. 3 M2V FILES AND 3 AC3/MP2 FILES) SO I CHOSE 'ADD FILE' AND CHOOSE ONE PAIR AND THEN 'ADD FILE' AGAIN AND ANOTHER PAIR AND SO ON. IN MY MENU I JUS HAD 3 CHOICES MOVIE1, MOVIE2 AND MOVIE3. SO IF YOU WANT MULTIPLE MOVIES ADD THEM ONE BY ONE IN THE 'SOURCE SETUP' TAB.

now choose 'create menu' and make your menus(there are tutorials out there to help you with this). if you dont want any click on 'output' and specify where you want it to be saved. and now when ur ready click on 'begin output' and wait for ur kdvd :lol:

6. when its done it will be in dvd folder format i.e. AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. I use nero to burn it. Open nero and choose dvd-video and it will show u audio_ts and video_ts already created. i delete those and choose the folders i get from tmpgenc dvd author and then burn.

thas it ! you now have your kdvd and good luck testing it :wink:

p.s. shout out to kwag for his help with my jerky vdos and also its 3 am right now and my grammar is a mess. so excuse me for that i will make changes if anyone doesnt understand anything in this. ez.

Just to let you know I haven't done it yet. I'm still waiting for a point and click option to make KDVD movies. I used acp to make 4 KVCD's however all working in my APEX.

Although I only work with DVD sources I do appreciate as im sure many will the time and effort you put in to help others out and newbies to the scene. :)
