I did a search in the forums and i couldnt get any posts with a similar problem to mine. i used the kdvd template from this site and i converted an avi without audio to m2v. the changes i made were
1. motion estimate search(fast) (to speed up the encoding)
2. aspect ratio (1:1) vga bcoz i didnt want it in widescreen i wanted it as regular full screen with aspect ratio maintained

i have no complaints about the quality and i also joined the m2v with audio from the divx that i converted to ac3 but i had jerky playbak from when i got the m2v. is it bcoz i changed motion estimate or bcoz of the aspect ratio ?

i tried the vdo first in my pc with bsplayer, windvd, windows media player and winamp5 and then on my xbox and i get jerky playback, it kinda gets annoying after a while. any tips ?

You probably encoded at a different frame rate than your source.
What's your source frame rate

Did you get jerky playback on the Xbox only
Or did it also jump on the software players

Try another source
I think your problem is the file you encoded.

i doubt the source is the problem bcoz last week i used tmpgenc to convert the same divx to dvd and the file was around 4.1 gb and it didnt jerk at all. but when i tried kdvd it bcame jerky, i wonder if changin the motion estimate thing had anything to do with it..

What authoring program did you use
Have you tried TMPGEnc DVD Author

I had problems before when authoring with 3:2 pulldown flag.
With TMPGEnc DVD Author, all my KDVDs work fine.

Also, how did you multiplex your .m2v and .mp2 audio

i didnt author the kdvd file i made, i use tmpgenc dvd author to author my dvds.

to join the m2v and mp2 i used mpeg tools and then multiplex to join the audio in tmpgnec but the jerkiness was there before i joined audio. i checked the vdo right after it was created and it was jerky. since it was jerky from the start i didnt author it to a dvd.

Then the only thing I can think of, is your output aspect ratio
Encode a small clip, letterboxed, and set the output to 4:3.
See if it still jumps.

hey kwag i think i got the problem. the first encode runs fine as long as i let it play from the beginning...as soon as i fast forward and watch it starts being jerky. now i wudnt want that on my kdvd when i play it on my dvd player so is there any remedy to this ?
p.s. 4:3 created smaller file i think i'll do that from now on

Your KDVD is as compatible as any other MPEG-2 encode, but smaller in file size.
There are no known incompatibilities with KDVDs on any standalone player.
Maybe your player doesn't like open GOP
Try closing it on the template, encode again, and try it on your player.
