@vmesquita
First of all I wanna thank you for this GUI! But, I'm missing the 480x576 resolution in the "Final resolution" selector. I think every other resolution is there but not this one... And what do you know, that's exactly the resolution I needed

Go copy the command-line in Mencode-me textbox, open a dos box, go to the folder you unpacked Mencode-me, and paste the command and run. Report the error message.

The main purpose was use directly VOBs or AVIs. To use AVIs generated by MakeAVIS, you need a special conf file, which will present in next release.

2) I tried using just 1 vob for test purposes. The bitrate setting is
what? (Max, Min, or Average).
As Inc already said, it's the average. Min can't be set right now without killing rate control. Max is already set according to what your are doing: KSVCD/KDVD/KVCD.

3) After setting DVD4:3 to VCD4:3, force film checked, GOP 18,
width= 352, height=240 (352X240), my output file was always
"movie.m2v" instead of "movie.m1v". Did I do something wrong?
Rename it to m1v. The kvcd template produces MPEG1video, but I forgot to change the extension.

Also, as Inc already asked: Are you doing 1pass or 2pass?

In the meantime I'll try another resolution .

Thanks for the info buddy I will I will look for those guides I will probably ude BBmpeg to mux the files and see how it goes.

@vmesquita

That was a great idea thanks I didnt think of that I will copy and paste the command in a DOS Box and let you know of the results.

It's because the FreeType font to render text-based subs is not included. But since you're not using, don't bother with that.

My OS is Windows 2000 Pro using FAT32 which has a file size limit
of 4.2GB and that's why I used FakeAVIS. I'm working with 1 vob
file to test the program. I did use the average bitrate from CalcuMatic
and it seems to be working except CalcuMatic uses .d2v source
and DVD2AVI is needed. I'll try a bitrate calculator from DVDRhelp.com
and compare the results. It's coming together nicely thought, so keep
up the great work!!!

To use avisynth ..... heres a thread:
http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9078

But you should keep the latest mencoder build as provided with mencoderGUI the other things you can use from there to make avs scripts work via ffvfw makeavis.

Vmesquita in this thread mntioned that you should enter in Makeavis using a YV12 colorspace but I never had to do that .... and as I remember mencoder.exe even prefers more a YUY2 source ..... well so its mentioned in the command window report.

Hi bp,

CalcuMatic can read AVI, D2V, MPEG files and even VFAPI (pseudo AVI) created files , but apparently it can't read MakeAVIS
I'll look into that

Also when doing your avi from avs via makeavis you see how long the stream is in the window of makeavis .... this movielength you can simply enter in calcumatic's movie length settings.

@Zyphon

I had exactly the same problem regarding a fast flash of the Command window. I did what Vmesquita suggested to get indications about the error : it is a pathname problem regarding the source file.
My file was in 'Documents and settings\...', and the path was reduced at the first blank to 'Documents\...', which obviously caused an error.

I solved it putting the source file directly under C, and it rocks...

@vm,

What a differance bitrate makes!!! WOW!!!
My video encode for LOTR-TTT is Great!!!
I found a program "Meg-1 Bitrate" that comes very darn
close to MovieStacker, CalcuMatic, FitCD and requires
you to enter the movie length in time and calculates
Size>>Bitrate The picture quality is as good and I'd
say better than Tmpgenc. I used 2pass this time, and
frame rate 23.976fps, GOP=18, DVD to KVCD template.
The video's motion is still jerky and I can't figure why
Also, the time was less than half of Tmpgenc's to encode
(47 min vs 2hr 30min). Including overscan would be nice.
I wondering if an avs script using MA will be necessary
with the great picture quality I'm already getting

Do have a look in the .config files, maybe the one for AvitoKDVD or DVDtoSVCD.

They do got diff. Postprocessing settings!
Means .. you could copy the postprocessing from another config which performs more filtering and add it to the target purposed config, like the DVDtoKDVD one and give it a new name like DVDtoKDVD_moreFiltering.config.

Thats the way I did so I do have like 10 config files (in beta test phase!) which will be recognised in MeMencoderGUIs pupup later, so I can handle most soures as many DVD sources do still come in a very niosy state and can gain much from some postprocessing via mencoders internal postprocessing engine.

So you can add to the DVDtoKDVD config file the following

Code:
vf=yuvcsp,pp=hb:100:100/vb/dr,hqdn3d=4:3:5,crop=xxx:yyy:x:y,scale=xxx:yyy:0:0:7,noise=5u,expand=xxx:yyy
This would theoretically mean:

- yuvcp = correct luma treatment to keep luma within the TVscale range
- pp=hb:100:100/vb/dr = Postprocessing, where hb means horiz.Deblocking and vb VerticalDeblocking and dr Deringing
- hqdn3d=4:3:5 = HQdenoiser = spatial by 4 at luma, spatial by 3 at chroma and 5 for the amount of temporal filtering
- noise=5u = Like Blockbuster to avoid blocks on dark scenes

Now crop, scale and expand are similar to crop(), xxxResize(),Addborders where the type of resizing (bicubic,lanczos) will be determined by the sws=x one line below

So I for example did a just apply a single crop=704:576:8:0 to get a 720x576 source to the right 704x576 by maintaining the right AR and no scaler or expand was needed. BUT if you want to end up in an overscanned area fileld by black borders, you should use FitCD to calculate the values and enter them above in the logic as it will be done by avisynth.

A little recommendation:

I always use file/folder-names where NO space is used

"The 6th sense" for example could be named for encoding etc. like this:
"6thSense" or "6th_Sense". Also its very useful to have short Parts where encodings/projects will be safed/stored, like D:\Encodings\.....

I remember as that also was an issue when there TmpgEnc project files got problems when refering to long or comples path names in combination with CQmatic.

Maybe those issues yould be fixed in the GUI but seen as general I never had problems of that kind anymore no matter if I deal with Commandline based apps. or something else.

LOL
Hi bigggt,
Let me guess.
You have Portuguese Subs with ç,ã,õ,é,á kind of characters?
If so select which sub to encode by changing the *.ini file produced by MEncoderMe.
The argument to change is sid=x where x is the number of the sub when you watch the movie on a standalone and search for the right sub.
Cheers

Ok, looks like you found two extra bugs:
1) I forgot to add "" around filenames, so filenames with spaces won't work. This is simple to fix.
2) I forgot sid=1 in the DVD templates, so everything is encoded with subs.

Thank god, it's very easy to fix bugs.

I am working on a new way to call mencoder, so instead of spanning a DOS Shell, mencoder runs in the log textbox (actually mencoder stdout is redirected to the textbox). It may look like a ridiculous thing, but actually is very tricky and I've been trying to do this since the beggining of DIKO development (and I gave up many times). Finally I got it working, the only problem is that the GUI crashes as soon as mencoder process ceases exisiting. But this shouldn't be hard to fix.
