use KVCD to fit 2+ hour on one CD-R ?
 

Firstly I'd like to thank KWAG for creating these templates and making them available to us all, good work m8, keep it up.

I've been using KWAG's templates for some time now, mainly to transcode avi films to mpegs so I can watch them on my stand alone DVD player.

The reason for this thread is to say that I've just manages to put three episodes of Stargate Sg1 onto one disk including a menu. Each episode runs at around 43mins.

The only thing I've done diffrent to the standard templates is to use the default matrix( it seems to handle Divx,Xvid and most dirty or compressed sources better, but that's just my opinion), and drop the audio to 112kbs gives fairly good quality( well to my ears it does ).

The avi's are of the 640x352 and 512x288 Widescreen digital tv cap variety, I then put them through FitCd to resize to 480x480 with temporal smoother at 2,2.
To be honest when I did this it was on;y to put a single episode on disc as I know Divx transcodes can ballon considerably from that of the original size. The Avi's were all in the region of 350 meg apiece. So Imagine my suprise when the final file was only in the region of 250 meg with hardly any loss in quality when viewed on a 32" widescreen telly. So I encoded a further 2 episodes just to see if it was a unique occurence, the other files came out at 201 meg and 212 meg respectively. All fitted nicely onto a sigle 80 min CD.

I'm no expert at this, nor am I bragging or asking to be flamed I was just wondering if anyone else had managed a similar thing or perhaps this is just a one off (I hope not).

quite simply kvcd=kvckickazz,,,,
i transcoded some older svcd's that took up three or four cds onto one 80 min cdr mainly to view while on the road on the laptop. And they all did fit quite nicely and retained a lot of the svcd quality. So no, its not a one off.
But,, what is telly----is it like telly=television or telly=telly 'Who loves Ya,Baby' savalas... ? :lol:

Which template did you use?

Actually it's a guitar- Gibson Tellycaster.

the KVCDx2-CQ-(NTSCFilm)-1CD template, with just a tweak to the rez (480x480) and I used the default matrix in Tpmeg, it seems to handle dirty sources ie: already compressed, a little better and like I said i changed the audio to 112 mainly because it was a TV rip. seemed to work tho' but it skipped a little on my stand alone last night, so I might re- encode and try a larger vbv to see if that cures it. The audio played alright but the video stalled then fast forwarded, so I think my Encore DV-450 doesn't like the low vbv buffer value prolly up it to 64 k. But if any one has any other suggestions I'm all ears.
