Encoding: What Size Should I Resize a 416x256 Video?

FitCD gives: xvcd = 704x416, vcd=352x224 and 1/2DVD=352x416. What is better? Go up or down? If I go up I could select Custon Center size in TMPGEnc??

I would go down. Going up, will blow up your macroblocks, and it will look worse. If you do plan to go up to try it out, use Bicubic resize. Not bilinear.

Interesting! I will try both ways...if I could get the FitCD script to be recognized and loaded by TMPGEnc 2.56. I installed the DLL in Win32...will try re-installing it.

I am having a "FIT" over FitCD. I have 416x256 that is a ratio of 1.625. FitCD (no cropping) wants to resize it for VCD to 352x192 or a 1.833 ratio. That ratio is way off.

Why would I not use 352x224 which is a 1.571 ratio?
OR Why would I not use 320x192 which is a 1.666 ratio?

Am I missing something?

Hi reman

If you want to maintain the aspect ratio use "accurate", otherwise your picture will look distorted a little bit.
You should crop the movie to 414x256 and then resize it to 352x198 (aspect ratio 1.62) for a dest. size of 352x240 (VCD).

And according to the author (shh) of Fitcd you get better result with Bicubic Precise when resizing up.
You might want to read the readme.txt that came with FitCD.

Do you mean resize it to 352x192? I thought that you must use multiples of 32.

The destination is 352x240 (multiples of 32 ) and the picture is centered at 320x180 (aspect ratio 1.62). The centered picture can be anything you want it to be. You can use the "round to" button change the presicion of the acpect ratio. The larger the value, the better the result (my preference is 16).If you will use the AviSynth script you don't need to change anything under "Video arrange method" in TMPGENC. Leave it at "Full Screen".
