There are many posts floating around (not including mine) asking how to go about cram 2 mpg1 into 1 KVCD. If its not too much to ask, could a guide be done on this? It would be very helpful and solve many questions a newbie has about doing this. And perhaps reduce the number of posts made about this subject. THis is just a suggestion...

@wowiegurl,

Simply open each .mpg file(s) with DVD2AVI as input. Then follow any
of the DVD to KVCD guides. Depending on the mpeg quality and output
resolution will determine picture quality

DVD2AVI doesn't seem to like my MPG1 files. What can I do?

@wowiegurl,

Use VirtualDub and go to file --> File Information --> look at video
and audio stream. Let me know what information is there.

Use the same scripts as with AVI files, only exchange AVISource for DirectShowSource. If you load the AVI file like this: AVISource("path\clip.avi") , use DirectShowSource("path\clip.avi",audio=false,fps=2 5) instead. You should extract the audio in VirtualDubMod and process it separately, that's why the audio has been disabled in the DirectShowSource line.

This way it might work.

There is one thing I don't understand.

Why do you try to convert VCD material to KVCD? The quality won't be any better, in fact it will suffer greatly from re-encoding. Any DVD-player should be able to play VCDs so that is not the problem.

hi boulder,

actually im my limited experience with 2cds to 1 cd KVCD there is no noticable loss after encoding.

so most people prefer to have 1 cd instead of getting up to change em.

i think thats why anyhoo

cheers

This is the very reason. I've tried trimming off the opening/closing credits but the file has gotten to about 850 mbs. I don't know of any other way of compressing 2 mpg1 into 1 cd, and I've read other posts where people are putting 2 mpg1 into 1 kvcd. But doing this is very difficult as there are not many guides showing how exactly to do this. THat is why I'm suggesting someone do a guide so to minimise posts like these. It will also make things easier for people trying to cram 2 mpg1 into 1 cd, if there is a guide avaliable.

Lol. You should determine what is more easy - to change CD's while watching or to cram 2 mpegs in 1 kvcd

Well I'd rather have 1 cd than 2 but the learning process to doing this is very difficult but I don't mind. Once I figure out how to do things it will be much easier and I'll save more money as well.

This is of coures PAL. Is the audio .mp2 or what? Here's the real
problem though. Your mpg1 vcd files when merged as one will
be greater than 1 80min CDR. I believe you said 850mb. Combining
them into 1 KVCD will not reduce their total very much. You will still
exceed 1 80min CDR. It would look worse when re-encoded at a
lower CQ to fit 1 80min CDR. So, this approach dosen't look promising

combining them allows you to put 2 800mb (or even 3) mpgs onto 1 cd and the quality is exactly the same as original in my eyes m8......whether its VCD or SVCD.

Let's see, two mpeg-1 800mb each (or even 3), that's 2400mb
compressed onto 1 80min CDR with no quality loss. PLEASEEEEEE!!

No Black Prince. I meant 1 file at 450 mbs and the other is 550 mbs. I want to cram these files onto 1 kvcd.

no secret m8

KVCD/KSVCD templates :P

the cd i have seen with a 3 cd movie put on 1 cdr was svcd.....its QT's5th and the 3rd cd was undersized so i think it was 635mb or something.

but i am not guffing.......to my eyes (maybe they need testing:P ) no quality loss is noticeable.

have you tried it m8?

cheers

Oh, now that's clearer. Start with making sure both mpeg-1 files
have the same resolution (352x288, PAL) and check what the
audio format is (i.e. .mp2). Now check for a PAL version of
KVCD at 352x288 template. As I last remember you had a problem
with DVD2AVI. Could you be more detailed about this problem and
what error messages. What were your settings for DVD2AVI
for video (force file should be OFF). I believe you could get your
movies on 1 KVCD with little or no picture loss
