Best way to convert xvid with ac3 to kvcd?

i have done every thing that the guide says but still nothing ...
the sound is delayed and kinda crappy

please help me with step by step actions 1 time and i will learn from there

PLEASE !!!
the file is 23.976 fps 576X240 AC3 448 kbps
the length is 1:46:00

I don'"t know what guide you use but there is REALLY no difficulties :

- separate the audio from the video using virtualdubmod (just demux it, DO NOT CONVERT it in wav)

- encode the video in mpeg1 23.976 if you standalone supports it or in mpeg2 with 3.2 pulldown activated if it doesn't.

- convert the ac3 audio into mp2 WITHOUT CHANGING ANYTHING TO THE FRAMERATE.

Mux video and audio together. All will be okay.

As I got not the time to look at that guide, I do need more informations, so please:

can u tell me exactly what version of virtuadub to use and exactly what to do ??? exactly step-by-step

Dialhot 05-02-2004 04:41 PM

First, this is not virtualdub but virtualdubmod

Second :

- load the avi
- in the stream menu, go to "streams list"
- select the auio you need to demux
- use "demux" button.

That's it.

bruce_wein 05-02-2004 05:03 PM

i have virtualdubmod v1.4.13 and i dont have any STREAM menu
please tell me exactly where it is ?

bigggt 05-02-2004 05:09 PM

hi Bruce

its next to the video tab but i have version 1.5.4.1

Dialhot 05-02-2004 06:13 PM

In 1.4.13 it's like in vdub : the "audio" menu !
Choose "full processing" and choose "PCM - no compression" in the "compression" setting (still in audio menu).
Then "save wav" in file menu (or audio one, don't remember : version 1.4.13 is more than ONE YEAR old !)

bruce_wein 05-03-2004 06:24 AM

ok man
i got your version
when i load the file it asks me : "yes" , "no"
what to do ?

Select yes and after this
take a look here.

For version 1.4.13
  1. Open your file, select yes if a question about audio, popup .
  2. Select menu, audio, full processing mode, audio, compression, pcm, no compression, ok.
  3. Select menu File, save wav, select a name, ok.

bruce_wein 05-03-2004 07:34 AM

ok
i saved 1gb wav in VirtualDubMod 1.4.13 and reencoded it to mp2 160 kbps dual-channel 48khz in headAC3che
now i'm done with the audio part (i hope i did ok)

now about the video :
if the original avi is 23.976 fps do i HAVE to use NTSCfilm template in TMPGenc with 23.976 fps and then burn in nero NON-COMPILANT NTSC
or ...
can i just use the pal template and the make pal kvcd in nero

please help me with this PAL/NTSC/NTSCfilm issue its really confusing
my dvd reads pal/ntsc so whats the difference ?
please suggest me what should i do and thanks again for all this

a) reencoding at 160kbit is a VERY GOOD choice you made as you deal already (as I think) with a more compressed AC3 source, so reencoding at our known bitrate like 128kbit "could" push the quality limits.

b) ...BUT ... you did choose 48khz, maybe I didnt read this thread carefully, but do choose for KVCD 44.1khz and for KDVD 48khz.

c) if your player supports direct 23.976 via mpeg1 .. then do encode using that template as 23.976 IS NTSC FILM. But if your Player only accepts 29.97 Sources, then do a mpeg2 encoding using the "Pulldown while play option" (I think Phil already mentioned that?) at still 23.976!

Heres a guide to encode 23.976 mpeg2 incl the pulldwon while play option.
http://www.incredible.de.tf/pulldown.html

Depending on your TV set (NTSC or PAL) the DVDplayer maybe can read both PAL and NTSC .... BUT ... it depends on if he can "convert" internally correct to your TV set format.

Lets assume you got a NTSC Tv set and a 23.976 stream in mpeg2 w/ pulldown while play disk is inserted:
The Standalone DVD Player takes the 23.976, recognises the pulldown-flag and processes an internal pulldown 3:2 means  23.976 become 29.97 frames per second (= ~60 fields per second!)... due to framedoubling and dynamical field shifts and thats what your TVset does understand (if its a NTSC one which runns under 60hz (60 fields per second ... aha! see the logic??? ;-) ) power frequency, means 110v).

If you got a PAL Tv set and a 23.976 NTSC disk incl. pulldown, then this is a big work for the player .... he does a pulldown to 29.97, and performs a norm conversation back to 25 which gets into your PAL Tvset as fieldshifted and blended 50 fields per second stream because PAL is 220v and 50hz.
For shure there do exist 100hz PAL Tvsets, but this will be done internally, a antiflicker (or something like this) treatment which ends up in 100hz (IMHO)

And I think thats the reason why 110v Countries do suffer from NTSC
So lets switch the whole power in these countries to 220v/50hz and we all "could" encode nice at 25fps where 23.976 FILM sources would just get a speedup to 25fps applied and where NO telecine (pulldown 3:2, 23.976 to 29.97) would have to be applied.

Prodater64 05-03-2004 09:14 AM

You must to have in account that any change of fps applied now, will cause that audio already codified will be out of sync.
If you change your video fps, also should change your audio speed.

incredible 05-03-2004 09:30 AM

If he gots an already 23.976 Source and if an encoding is done well there will be no audio speed change needed ... if yes ... something was done wrong ;-)

Only an audio speed change has to be done if just a speedup of the framerate will be done to 25.000FPS, but in this thread I didnt hear anything about that he wants to end up in PAL.
Or did I miss that :?: 8O

I'm sorry, but I was read that and...

incredible 05-03-2004 10:31 AM

*uops* --- I really missed that 8O

Thats why it should be useful to know "very clear" at the beginning of such questions to what format the source should be encoded to

As only this outfilled template makes me thinking "same fps as source":

Is it normal that the converted video (with pulldown while playing) is jerky on PC? It can't be, right? Just checking..

bruce_wein 05-03-2004 01:25 PM

first of all thanks a-lot - incredible
i have used 23.976 ntsc template and multiplexed it with TMPGenc with the audio from before
in nero i used NON COMPILANT and selected NTSC but ..
the movie is still out of sync a little bit but its very anoying its about 0.5 sec or so ...

what have i done wrong ???

im getting mad at my computer !!!
and yes i would like PAL all the way because my TV is PAL and i live in 220v country (lucky me !!!)

but what should i do to make it all pal : audio and video ???

another thing : not only the audio is out of sync it also has ticks every 5 - 10 secs or so ... very strange ...

the source by the way is perfect and the audio is excellent on it

please help guys !!!

bruce_wein 05-04-2004 11:17 PM
