Encoding Master VHS to AVI to SVCD ?

Help! Im not so new in capture and converting, but that problem let me stuck in a hole. I take PAL VHS to AV Master 98 with regular cable at max Hardware Compression its 1:8 for the lite card. Thats more than S-VHS exactly 2,44 Mbyte per second. Wow, im impessed but then im so confused. The AVI is not so sharp. Its a capture problem? Captured with VD or Fastcap from Dazzle. VD seems to be clearer. Or a cable problem. I use the SVHS to Cinch Adapter bought from Dazzle in the box with the card. But if thats not enough, i cant get good results when converted to VCD. All the sharpness has gone. Like washed out, gray fog or like that. But absolutely no blocks. What im afraid off, the blocks are not there. But the sharpness. Where has it gone? Then i used the KDVD Full D1 Template and the result was perfect. But i want to use some stuff on 1 CD for 70 to 90 min. Thats VCD Quality. But im not satisfied with the result. On the other side, it takes nearly 1 Hour for 1 min in SVCD Quality on a P3/500. Thats the reason i bought a MPEG Card with Zoran Chip i know, i cant get good results for realtime capture with this Pentium. Is it normal to convert 1min in 1 hour? And why the result is much better after convertion when checked De Interlace on (Odd Field) I use full capture at 768x576 PAL . Any Suggestions? Your are in to the scene, so what should i do? If you need more details ask me. I use of course TMPGenc. Please help me out.

Hi hausmann,

One hour per minute 8O Something is way wrong. I think you have a CODEC problem.
Have you tried to convert a DVD rip, and see how long it takes to convert a minute of VOB to VCD?

Uhm, a CODEC Problem. That sounds really bad. No i havn´t yet converted a vob. I will take one from the net and see how it flows. I converted Divx 90min in about 6 or 7 hours to mpeg. Thats right.
Stay tuned. You are the man!
