So my problem is that my avi-videos that I convert are after converting jerky(also when watched on PC). Source is smooth before convert. I use TMPGEnc for converting. I have succesful converts with 25fps avi files. But when source is 23.976, video is jerky, always. I don't know what I do wrong because my dvd player plays all kvcd-movies.

My template is KVCDx3-MPEG-1-NTSCFilm.

Source is movie with 23.976fps.

Please help

Sorry my bad english...

Well I didn't fill that form because it seems useless for my problem. Because I don't have audio in the video(xvid) and the destination is unknown because I'm trying to find destination which works smoothly. I haven't used any avisynth scripts.

But could you tell me is it normal when converted with "pulldown while playback" that when watched video on PC, it's jerky. I mean that movie has some pauses(almost one second) through movie.

Dont misunderstand me, but I think as we are the ones who try to help you it would be our decision which informations we do need

So fill out the template with the values which ar known, means which target framerate and so on .... you just filled out the source parameters and I had "to find out" during many discussing that you want to encode a 23.976 source in 25.000 PAL!
Dont you???

Dont you???

Sorry. Okey here goes

Source... (no audio)
- Filetype = Xvid
- interlaced = I don't know.
- Framerate = 23.976
- Resolution = 544x224

Destination... (template infromation)
- KVCD or maybe K(S)VCD
- Mode = Mpeg1 would be nice.
- Framerate = 23.976
- Resolution = 528x480
- Encoding Appl. = TMPGEnc
- muxing Appl. = TMPGEnc
- Authoring Appl. = I don't know this.
- Burning Appl. = Nero

I hope this helps.

Could problem be with ffdshow?

a) if source is 23.976 than its not interlaced
b) try as said encoding mpeg2!!!! at 23.976 with pulldown while play! www.incredible.de.tf/pulldown.html
c) if encoding to mpeg1, then KEEP also here 23.976 (if it plays, thats a DVD SA-Player thing) but exactly this might a problem in your case

d) do preview your (set to polldown while play) m2v (mpeg2!) file BEFORE muxing separately!!
If it plays smooth and ok, then do mux the audio and video in BBmpeg or mplex.exe as then the tmpgenc internal muxing engine in your case makes problems. BBmpeg/mplex.exe do got an automatically pulldown detection on 23.976 inputs!

Do use VirtualdubMod for previewing as it also supports mpg2 playback.
(Thats what I do use)

d) I can't find where to put "pulldown while playing". :P

DVD SA-Player means DVD StandAlone Player.
Try to examine very carefully the source - I am almost sure you have there the jerkiness at very low extend - it can be amplified uppon reencoding

But there are so many videos that I have which always after converting has jerkiness. I am now trying converting video with sound and "pulldown while playing". Lets see what happens.

As you even quoted it! :

http://www.incredible.de.tf/pulldown.html

Why do you think I take the time to create a guide like that one incl. such a wonderful example picture inside which speaks even for itself?
Man, keep your eyes open! Like when watching a movie.

A "jerky" appearing like every second means exactly you didn't respected the needed framerate at all. So pleeeeeeze watch the link above.

Yeah I DO know where is pulldown in TMPGEnc. You said I should make a preview with virtualdubmod and put the pulldown on somewhere in there. But I didn't find it. I'm loosing my mind here dammit because I haven't still found out what is the problem

zoomplayer and divxplayer.

I tried converting with 29.97fps. Source was 23.976. Video looks smooth I don't see any jerky movement but is this normal?

@ Werne
I could not "imagine" that you did refer to previewing and not to the way of encoding in tmpgcenc

Explanation:
IF you set "Pulldown while play" in the encoder, that only means he puts a flag to the mpeg stream which is needed for the Standalone DVDplayer.

If you do preview a pulld.whileplay flag setted mpeg2 in i.e. Vdubmod ... then Vdub ignores that flag and plays the video back at the "real" encoded 23.976 ... So you can see if your Videostream plays smooth and not jerky.

If that m2v (video only, as said) still comes out jerky in Vdobmod (or zoomplayer) ... then you did something wrong. Maybe you anyway did set at encoding rate 29.97??? (but I think TmpgEnc got a safe function that you cant select other than 23.976 if "pulldown while play" is set.

So my next help to you would be the following way:

Do provide two cuttet 10sec.! samples in here containing movement!! as followed:

1. one of your orig AVI
2. and one of your encoded mpeg2

I think this wont blast your bandwith/Traffic.

And then Ill do inspect them

ok? As I think the issue is very simple.

Inc.

What?? You did convert the 23.976 to real 29.97?? How??
(I know thats possible via Telecining BUT this doesnt follow our logical encoding way in here)

I don't know did I explain this right. With TMPGEnc I changed the settings and there I can change the fps, so I did, to 29.97.

When I have the two cuts how can you inspect them? Weird problem here is that I have made some smaller clips so I can see if there is jerky movement but every time the encoded clip is smooth for some reason. But when it comes bigger clips they always has this jerky movement.

Werne,

everything is explained above (sorry) and thats the way to make 23.976 sources encoding to kvcd/kDVD.

So the issue lies on something you did wrong or you didnt folllowed well.

Thats WHY I said to you to provide two samples as explained above!
You can choose a free webspace provider (google search) where you can offer me these needed samples so I can continue helping you
