I can give you some non standart advices although I don't know if they are any good. As you have smooth outcome with small clips, cut the avi in pieces and encode them separately. Then merge all with TMPG, or make (S)VCD with them w/o merging, only set 0 sec. between.

Hmm.. It takes lot of work. But not bad idea. Maybe I'll try if it's my last chance.

As told above by Inc, the problem isn't in what you have or don't have. The problem is in something you do wrong despite all the advices we already gave to you. Even with a script, if you do not identify where you fail, the result will be the same

I found out that muxing could be the problem. I used tmpgenc for muxing and I heard it isn't very good program for that. So could anyone give me advice that what is good program for muxing? tok? bbmpg? Where can I find it?

Thanks. But the problem isn't gone.

Any advice what should be value of VBV buffer size and bitrates?

And I noticed that converting takes much more time(tmpgenc) if in Environmental Setting I lower the value of DirectShow Multimedia File Reader. Again I have to ask could someone give me values for VFAPI-plug in tab. pls give them here and don't say I have to search them somewhere in the forum. I thought that those settings could also be the problem?

These are my video settings for tmpgenc. See anything wrong?

Video stream setting:

-Stream type: MPEG-2 Video
-Size: 528x480
-Aspect Ratio: 4:3 Display
-Rate Control Mode: Constant quality(CQ)
-Bitrate: -max 2500
-min 300

-VBV Buffer size: 112
-Profile & level: Main profile & Main level (MP@ML)
-Video Format: NTSC
-Encode Mode: 3:2 pulldown when playback
-YUV Format: 4:2:0

-DC Component precision: 10bits
-Motion Search precision: High Quality(slow)

Sorry I didn't get you a image but I hope those say something.

I'm uber-new, as in "this is my first post" new, so forgive me if somebody else discovered this already..

I was having this jerky problem here as well with both m1v and m2v.

After browsing through here and looking around, I happened to notice the "Detect Scene Changes" tab, and I tried unchecking that. The resulting video was smooth as ever.

I tried that too and it seems that it worked. But I'm not sure because I haven't burn it to a cd yet because my dvd player is broken It looked smooth when watched on PC.

One question: Is it possible to get fully working kvcd when fps 23.976 and you don't convert it with pulldown?

Ye sit is. I always do that. My player even accept MPEG1 in 23.976 (so no pulldown possible).

Thanks Dialhot.

I had several codec's on my computer when I had this jerky problem. I noticed that some movies had this "blinking effect" and wasn't very easy to watch(these movies were not converted). So I removed ffdshow and the blinking problem was gone. I thought that the jerky problem could come from my several codec's that are mixed up.
