I need to see what message give you the command propmp. For this open and cmd.exe window (start, run, cmd.exe) go to MencodeMe folder,
(cd 001_mencodeme + enter) and once there run batch file. When error, you can read it in window. Please do it and tell me what message give you de command prompt.

i fixed my problem it was just a mix up with the movie DIR
i like your guide btw very nice
but i got a problem with AVisynth when i click preview in mencodeme.exe it shows a black border on the right and left hand side, which i don't want.

LoadPlugin("E:\Program Files\DIKO\avisynth plugins\MPEG2Dec3.dll")

Mpeg2Source("E:\001_MencodeMe\Samples\SKVCD1.d2v")
BilinearResize(448, 542, 0, 0, 480, 576)
AddBorders(16, 17, 16, 17)

You add a border with the line "addborder" and you asked how to remove the border... hum...let me think about that question, that's a hard one !

BTW, trust me, you WANT this border but you don't know it yet. So let it were it is.

Note : When I asked you if you known KVCD you answered yes, you did some of them. Are you SURE about that ? How did you do them ?

Note2 : A little more reading for you :

Read again my post, I edited it and add precious lien for you and this border.

Note: you just removed the line ? Then your resolution will be wrong. You know what I refer by "correct resolution", don't you ?

Note2 : you use an avisynth script with mencoder ? You definetly doesn't understand anything to what you are doing

yes i do know what u mean by correct resolution and i did remove the line, alright so we got this line AddBorders(16, 17, 16, 17)
i do want borders but not from the left and right side just the top and bottom, so what numbers identify the top and bottom?

I agree but I repeat what I told you before : RECONSIDER THE USAGE OF MENCODER !
This is FAR from your level of knowledge and definitely NOT the way to start to do KVCD manually.

For the moment we are just tweaking mencoder in order to find IF it will be possible to use it TRUSTLY to do KVCD. Do you understand what I mean ?

Did you ever try to learn how to drive a car using a Ferrari ?

You told you will read the link I gave to you. Read them
I pointed you directly the manual page of Addborders. And you have also the whole manual of avisynth for future references.

1/ it's possible to encode something with mencoder without having any problem of course. But it's more due to luck than to a real stability of the encoder.

2/ the guide is called "intermediate" that, in technical english, means "not for beginers". If you manage to follow it, then congratulations to Prodater64 that made it

3/ the result you obtain is not perfect, or let say, can be much more better than that. Pro wrote his guide some time ago now (even if he updates it regulary) and the simple fact to use an avisynth script is not the optimal way to do. But, that does not mean either that what you have is bad.

Quote:

Tmpgenc and avisynth scripts.
Then you will understand all the steps AND you will obtain a result that is widely tested and proved for its quality and stability.

But perhaps you don't plan to keep the encodings you are doing currently with mencoder and you do them only for learn ?

Note: I repeat that because you missed it the first time : YOU DON'T KNOW IT BUT YOU WANT THE BORDER ON THE RIGHT/LEFT You just need to discover why now

hehehe well the only way for me to discover that is to play with it hehe, what i did was simply this
AddBorders(0, 17, 0, 17)
where 0 and 0 are the left and right of the frame, hmm i hope i'm right about this if not then i have another idea using the crp and addborder

For the strict usage of addborder, yes you are correct.

Now, that is not correct for the usage you need. Because moviestaker computed the resizing (the bilinearresize line in the script) taking in account that there will be a border of 16 pixels on each sides.

If you simply remove it without changing the bilinearresize line, you will obtain a movie that is 480-(2*16) = 448 pixels large.

And 448 * 576 is NOT a regular resolution... Do you see were is the problem ?

Okay... now the real solution :

- LET THE BORDER Trust me, trust me, trust me, you WANT it.
- ask to moviestacker to NOT generate this border. And that is simply done by putting "0" in the setting called "overscan" (you will find it easily).

This left and right black borders must to be there. You won't see this borders in TV screen. It is named overscan. But when encoding, to put there this borders just permits you to obtain more bitrate for film pixel (pictures in the movie) with a better final quality.

The messages of Dialhot have the good intention that you do not think that if you do not obtain good results, that is due to KVCD system. KVCD is a good system. Mencoder it is not enough enhanced yet. For this reason he advise you to use others encoders. In that sense you would have to do case to him. But if you want to investigate, do it so that it is a good form to learn. If you follow up strictly Maurus and mine one guides, without withdraw any border (hehe), you will obtain good results.

alright thank you both i get what u guys are saying and i am leaving the border as is and putting 0 in the overscan

now this is my question not really a problem but why does Mencode encode the file twice
Mencoder.exe -include temp.conf -lavcopts vbitrate=1154:vpass=1 "E:\001_MencodeMe\Samples\KSVCD2.avi" -o "E:\001_MencodeMe\Samples\KSVCD2.mpv"
Mencoder.exe -include temp.conf -lavcopts vbitrate=1154:vpass=2 "E:\001_MencodeMe\Samples\KSVCD2.avi" -o "E:\001_MencodeMe\Samples\KSVCD2.mpv"

Better MNC (MNC = Mencoder) encoding mode is two pass encoding. For this reason you need 2 command lines. You can avoid first video file output in this way:
Quote:
Mencoder.exe -include temp.conf -lavcopts vbitrate=1154:vpass=1 "E:\001_MencodeMe\Samples\KSVCD2.avi" -o "/dev/null"
Mencoder.exe -include temp.conf -lavcopts vbitrate=1154:vpass=2 "E:\001_MencodeMe\Samples\KSVCD2.avi" -o "E:\001_MencodeMe\Samples\KSVCD2.mpv"
This code redirect your first pass encoding to a null device. It give you some more encoding speed. I will add that in a next script version.

And before you asked for it : NO you can't do only the first pass and save some times.

The first pass is only a "pre-drawing" of the final result. According to me it shouldn't even produce any video at all, this way people won't think they can avoid the second pass.

Personnaly I always used mencoder with the "-o /dev/null" trick as shown by prodater.
(note : I really mean "I used" mencoder).

hello again
alright i got a big .VOB file i extracted audio and all that and extracted a D2V. Moviestacker only reads D2V and AVI. so i loaded the D2V in there and copied my avisynth source, now the probelm:
when i get to the MencodeMe part, i load the D2V and then which Filter would be best to use
And i didn't make an AVS because its not an AVI please correct me if i'm wrong
