KVCD: Template video conversions choppy?

used kvcd plus 708x480.. outcome was clear, crisp.. problem was it was very choppy and had blocks all over...

what went wrong?

my source was from a DV CAMCORDER captured through firewire and rendered as .AVI...

Encode with the 352x480 template. DV cams don't record near 704x480. Or do you have a very high end model that does?

Can you verify what is the actual pixel resolution on your cam? I think that the actual capture resolution is below 720x480, and when converted to DV, it's being up-scaled. That's the reason why you are seeing blocks.
What brand/model is your cam?

i have a SONY DCR-PC110 NTSC and its a

1/4 type CCD (Charge Coupled Device)

Approx. 1,070,000 pixels (Effective (still): 1,000,000 pixels)

Ok, reading around the net, I've found that your CCD gives you an equivalent of around +-500x480 effective resolution, and then scales this to 720x480 for the DV stream. So that's why it's blocky. Try to encode with one of the 352x480 templates. Or if you want MPEG-2 and SVCD compatibility, you can try the SKVCD 352x480. Going to 704x480 or 720x480 will give you worse quality.

thank you ..ill try that as soon as i get home

bapski 08-23-2002 12:40 PM

tried what you suggested kwag, but am afraid it has gotten worse...seems i dont see any of the choppiness nor the blocks but i now see something like green.. and some sort of flashing video. .more like intermittent...

in VEGAS VIDEO the application am using to edit my video.. should i render it as TEMPLATE

1. NTSC DV with frame size of 720 x 480

or

2. DEFAULT TEMPLATE UNCOMPRESSED with frame size of VIDEO CD 352 X 240?

and oh what video format (compression )should i use? choices include UNCOMPRESSED, DIVX, INDEO and etc...

thanks again..

Hi bapski,
Have you tried opening your DV file directly with TMPEG?
Or better yet, open your DV file with FitCD, and set destination to 352x480. Now open the .avs with TMPEG.

no i have not opened my file in tmpgenc.. and its because i still edit my video with vegas video...

perhaps i should render my video to the highest settings and then use your templates in tmpgenc. . . question is, which of the templates would give me the best quality vcd...

i hope i am not running out of options...
