Hi,

Just noticed some differences in the kdvd templates and what is said on this site by "official specifications".

The official kdvd specs say:

Quote:
DVD Compliance:

For DVD compliant MPEG files, select the standard DVD parameters for your encoder, but change (modify, patch, etc.) the matrix on your encoder to use the KVCD "Notch" Quantization Matrix. This will enable play times of ~6 hours on a 4.7GB DVD(+-)R(W) media at a standard resolution of 720x480(576 ) Full D-1, Wide Screen encodes, or ~10 hours at a resolution of 352x480( 576 ) Half D-1.
The pal templates have a number of 5823 (or something like that) voor P frames in the GOP structure.

When I look at the GOP with standard settings of my encoder (tmpgenc) is has 4 frames.

What method should i use?

Standart PAL is 15 frames in GOP max. This is also setting for KDVD. Can you tell me if you have 2 B frames in row and 15 frames in GOP max how much P frames are there?

abond,

my last post was indeed a bit confusing...

the gop is indeed 15 frames.

but:

OK, let think a bit. You have 5000 P frames setting. But you have also a setting that GOP can not be more than 15 frames. So, the GOP is RESTRICTED to only 15 frames. How many from them are P frames?
Edit: What I wanted to say is that if I set P frames to 5 000 000 the gop will be always 15 and P frames always 4.

Yes, I know it seems a bit weird.

Just download the template from this site and see for yourself..

It's the same with the kvcd-templates, a max GOP of 25 but also about 5000 P (or B, don't remember exactly).
Quote:

MPEG.Video.GOP_I_FrameCount = 1
MPEG.Video.GOP_I_FrameCount_ReadOnly = True
MPEG.Video.GOP_P_FrameCount = 5823 MPEG.Video.GOP_P_FrameCount_ReadOnly = True
MPEG.Video.GOP_B_FrameCount = 2
MPEG.Video.GOP_B_FrameCount_ReadOnly = True
MPEG.Video.GOP_BitStreamForEdit = False
MPEG.Video.GOP_BitStreamForEdit_ReadOnly = False
MPEG.Video.GOP_MaxFrameCount = 15
MPEG.Video.GOP_MaxFrameCount_ReadOnly = True

Don't worry about 5823 value, it can be this one or 24. GOP size should be 15 in KDVD (DVD). KDVD is fully DVD compliant.
Do you know letters in a phone number's button?
5823 = KUAG

I know the templates. I want to say that IT DOESN'T MATTER how many P frames are specified. It does matter only the MAX frames in GOP.
