A couple of samples
Today, I put three movies on one DVD-R, just for the hell of it
The movies were: "Top Gun", "Red Planet" and "Point Of No Return". All three :!: Here are a couple of samples of the "Top Gun" movie: http://www.kvcd.net/topgun.mpg.cut.13.mpg http://www.kvcd.net/topgun.mpg.cut.17.mpg The three movies were encoded with PackShot. I can see NO difference from my original DVD  Edit: The audio will start out of sync, because the samples were cut. But they should sync about half way. The complete movie is perfectly in sync. -kwag |
Amazing quality! 8O
Can't wait to start using this great new toy! |
Great looking samples. Which filters were used? Or no filters? 8O
And perhaps, can you say what about the lengh of all movies together and res and the encoding time. So I can better realize the quality and work of mencoder. :D  |
All movies were encoded 2-pass at 704x480 with overscan, non-anamorphic target, Noise reduction on the second tick, Blockbuster also on the second tick, pulldown enabled.
Total time of all three movies is about 5 hours, 30 minutes :) -kwag |

Then you need only 2:30 for 3 Movies on this hi res with one-pass. Great Encoder. |

I understood that 5h30m is the total time of the three movies, not the encoding time of the three movies. Most guys have been trying 2pass because we can afford to wait for the 2pass of Mencoder as it takes the same time as Tmpgenc's 1pass. But from my tests quality is not so much better in 2pass mode. EM,
like I told you via PN ... if you got mencoder working ... do your own tests to decide ... some people do say 1pass is enough, other do report that 2pass is better when using mencoder, so ONLY your eyes will tell you YOUR truth as YOU will play back the encodings on YOUR tv system ;-) |

But I wonder if it's that much better that I'll wait another 2 hours encoding. A wonderfull thing would be to do it with :vpass=1: so that it creates the divx.log file that keeps the figures so it can do a 2nd pass. This way I can see the 1st pass and decide if I'll keep it or run a 2nd pass. The only question is: encoding without :vpass=1: is the same as encoding without any :vpass: option: . I'll try to find out if it's the same or not. Cheers |
The Quality on those two samples look excellent Karl im impressed.
Good work Inc. :) I have only one question. My DVD Source is PAL 720 x 576 but it is resized to 704 x 576 with an AR 16:9. The question is how come I cant have a 720 x 576 as my output? Sorry for the dumb question but im just interested in the resize method. Thanks in advance. |
I think you have to choose "no rezising".

My so dumb! The answer was staring me in the face smacking me on the cheek. Thanks EM for your quick answer now I shall go and hide with embarresment lol. |

It just crops the 720 width by 8px left and 8px right so thats the right way to result in 704 width ... out of 720 width. |

I love this tool. I shall try and post some samples when I get time but it may be tomorrow when I have the time to do so. :( |
