You are the first one that report to have a speed gain by using it. Beside that, all people agree that this version is just a (paying) GUI above the old engine.

Actually the performance boost is documented on the Pegasys site: you simply need a P4 with Prescott core so the encode engine will be able to take advantage of both HT and SSE3, but I'll admit in some cases the gain is not so relevant.
What about the AC3 plug-in which TMPGE 2.5 doesn't support? Is it crap compared to other tools (I know it can re-encode to 2 channels only)? If so, please name a couple of good alternatives (even beter if freeware/open source).

To my limited knowledge the step which seems to do the "K trick" on the http://home.pages.at/xvcd/tmpgenc_3_0_xpress.htm is loading the provided quatntization matrix (kvcd.mat) which appears to be the exact copy of the KVCD "Notch" Quantization Matrix by Softronex, so [here comes the dumb question] since all the other parameters (output stream format, video size in pixels, audio settings, etc.) can be manually changed to meet the specs of all the different TMPGEnc templates Optimized with KVCD parameters is simply loading the right matrix it?
Flame away if it's the case everybody...

Oh yes it is !

And THAT is why is crappy. I really don't understand who wants to do 2.0 AC3 when (2.0) MP2 already exists as free in the encoder

I use ac3enc (with besweet) even if some reports often that it has bugs.
Note: you're right for the SSE3 features; I forgot that.

Absolutely, but doesn't the AC3 plug-in also enable you to decode from AC3 with TMPGE 3 XP (and eventually encode to 2.0 MP2)?

Will have a look into that tool, pardon my noobiness but what's "Besweet"?
Also, and more importantly, what about my previous post? Am I on the right track or simply babbling?

Oh. Probably. I don' have any info about the decoding part.
But does it really matters ? Are you often using ac3 sources directly in tmpgenc ? Maybe avi with ac3 sound but I don't think you use directly VOBS as input.

Okay, so let's take it from the begining then
Audio engine of tmpgenc is CRAP ! We advice to use external tool to encode the audio that are Headac3che or Besweet. I prefer the second one.
Look at there : http://dspguru.doom9.org

You are right.
Doing a KVCD is simply implementig the official specs, whaetver the mean. And the specs are there :
http://www.kvcd.net/portal/articles.php?lng=en&pg=20
As soon as you have the matrix, you did 90% of the way.

Major,
from the requiriment page:
"Precondition
Windows Media Player 9
DirectX 8 or above"
http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/produc...operation.html
maybe only the codecs "alone" don't work.

Thanks Jorel,
I have read the requirements in pegasys-inc, although I want to know the way that tmpgenc xpress works without installing windows media player 9.
I explain you. before I formatted, i had tmpgenc plus 2.52, and also tmpgenc xpress, and i have only windows media player 8, the xpress has worked perfectly (i never saw the message) until i have formatted. So i must do something before inconsciently that i dont remember now.
That is i am wondering the way because it worked me perfectly before without installing windows media 9
Thanks

Exactly (DivX and XviD in AVI containers).

I've browsed some Doom9 guides, thanks for the tip, for now I'll work a bit with HeadAC3he (has development stopped?).
Regarding the KVCD templates I'm allocating some time to the matter this Sudnay, will see what I can come up with.

This is driving you crazy, isn't it?
DARcode, we do like having templates for hard things, of course.
But it seems that templates for tmpgenc are not so important, even for tmpgenc v2.5xx.
You see, as Phil already told you, with the Notch matrix in a file/template you have 90% work done.
Why bother with the remaining 10%?
I mean look at the KVCD specs: it's not that hard is it?
Nevertheless I won't get in your way: it's always positive when somebody commits himself to a challenging task
Cheers

You do have a point, but what I'm actually after is the closest thing to an all-in-one tool, I know very well specific applications tweaked towards specific goals produce better quality results, but I have a limited amount of time to dedicate to video transcoding and editing, so TMPGE has so far been enough for me.
Also, the sources I need to manipulate are seldom DVD's and it's not stuff I want to keep for long, so I don't need extremely high quality results (for that I use XviD + 6-channel AC3, as it's supported by my stand-alone DVD player).
Templates are a big help and time savers to me since I'm ignorant regarding the most appropriate resolution, bitrate and fps settings one should choose according to the source, is there anywhere I could get pointers for that in here (posted some noob questions in the Video Conversion forum)?

My browsers (Firefox 0.9.3 and MSIE 6.0 SP1) won't display the pictures in the first post, is it just me?

Hi guys,
That's maybe because the of the forum jumping from provider to provider.
I'm sure Karl has to do some work on the links.
Let's wait for him to show up.
Cheers

Hi Rui,
Sorry for the FU
I forgot to merge the kvcd.net directories into the kvcd.net site, when I moved providers.
I'm doing that right now
Thanks,

Hi Men,
First I would like to thank jorel for the idea, i have applied it but without success, so i had to donwload the media player 9
I was trying to do a kvcd and i have seen (avi file reader in the clip info) when i opened the script, then i have disabled the plug-in avi file reader in order to open it with the plug-in readavs, and my question is:
There is a diference between the plug-in readavs and avi file reader?
Tanks

Everyhing's working perfect now, you're doing an awesome job , some hiccups are inevitable with a big move like that, thanks for your time and effort.
