Anyone tried MainConcept Encoder MCE 1.42 yet?

I see they've patched it from 1.4 I see a lot of bad reviews of MCE here on this forum, whereas the reviews are quite the opposite on the DVDRHELP forums.

I would like to switch to MCE from TMPGEnc for speed reasons and the way TMPGEnc will do their new licensing scheme. I don't believe in it and refuse to use it.

Just curious if anyone has used teh newest version yet and what the opinions are.

Thanks!!

Hi lschafroth, to be honest I have never used MCE so I dont really know a great deal about it. However Im sure our Guru's on this site can tell you heaps about it. :)

That's what I'm hoping. :) I don't have the time or the talent to do the tests and comparisons. If MCE really isn't up to par, I will have to bite the bullet and stick with TMPGEnc.

@lschafroth,

:idea: Try mencoder (and MencodeME GUI or PackShot GUI. )
You'll quickly dump every other encoder, including MCE :!:

BTW, great Atari avatar ;)

The big problem of MCE is that You can't keep bitrate without high peaks or over a minimun (300) when cq encoding.
About quality are to many points of view.
Without filters is very very fast.
I think mencoder is faster without filters too.
It will be released a 2.0 version (i don't know when exactly) with many of this issues fixed.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if 1.4.2 fixed any of the bitrate complaints or not.
I will look into Mencode. Here is the first place I've heard of it.

I've been using Atari computers since 1980. Their video games were secondary for me. :) Was fun to watch Fleetwood Mac do his onstage solo by hitting his vest in different areas to play music, knowing it was all doen with Atari laptops. :) hehe
